Monday, Sept. 22
*When a man was found
sleeping inside Carlos
Restaurante, the complainant
handcuffed the suspect, iden-
tified as Stephen Ray Clardy,
52. He was charged with sec-
ond-degree burglary.
*First-degree criminal
mischief involving a car,
which included obscenities on
the trunk, was reported on
Merlot Drive at 7:13 p.m. A
suspect was identified.
*Various areas of the
valley were patrolled for extra
attention.
*A vehicle was im-
pounded after its driver was
cruising without any lights at
1:36 a.m. on Hwy. 199 in
Illinois Valley. He was pur-
sued; then abandoned the
vehicle and kicked in some-
one’s front door before escap-
ing into some woods.
*The death of a woman,
56, was reported near 3 a.m.
at the KOA Campground
near the bottom of Hay’s Hill.
*Damage to a window at
Lorna Byrne Middle School
was estimated at $450 thanks
to some yahoo.
*Gasoline stolen from a
vehicle at the U-Haul busi-
ness in Cave Junction caused
a loss estimated at $150.
*Theft from a car was
noted at Six Mile Camp-
ground on Illinois River Road.
*On S. Old Stage Road a
repo man did his thing.
*On Schumacher Street
at 4:25 p.m. a woman found
her front door open after she
went to her bathroom.
*In the Holland area, a
man reported a scam, as he
was told he’d get $3.5 million
if he came up with $3,000
cash. He added that he’s al-
ready put out two large sums
to get the millions.
*A boy caught smoking
at Illinois Valley High School
didn’t go home.
*Some dorks tried to
steal a 1965 Chevy pickup
truck from 201 Shadowbrook
Drive, but dumped it into a
ditch at the bottom of the
driveway after damaging a
fence. The pickup was
slightly damaged.
*Numerous areas of the
valley, from one end to the
other, received extra patrol.
*Amy M. Mayville, 29,
was cited on charges of driv-
ing while suspended (DWS)
and driving uninsured on
Reeves Creek Road.
*A man on S. Junction
Avenue said that he was as-
saulted by a woman.
*Assault on Westside
Road and a tossed soft drink
were reported at 6:49 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 23
*There was a report from
Illinois Valley High School
(IVHS) that after two stu-
dents were said to be smoking
marijuana on a school bus, a
Crown Royal bag containing
a pipe and a small quantity of
illegal weed were confiscated
and destroyed.
Wednesday, Sept. 24
*All sorts of stuff hap-
pened today. None of it was
especially significant, al-
though a light and cover at CJ
City Hall were broken by
raging vandals. Otherwise,
the happenings were pretty
much the same as on other
days, but with different peo-
ple, none of them arrested.
Thursday, Sept. 25
*An alarm at the former
location of Fire Mtn. Gems in
Cave Junction was caused by
an errant bat that was loosed
to the wild at 12:09 a.m.
*Some nut ignited a roll
of toilet paper at Art’s Red
Garter and dropped it onto a
restroom mat, causing I.V.
firefighters to respond at
12:17 a.m. A rumor that fire-
fighters and patrons scuffled
is unfounded.
*For some reason, an
alarm sounded at Clear Creek
Family Practice in Selma at
2:10 a.m. No problem was
located.
*Assistance was ren-
dered at 3:48 a.m. by a dep-
uty and I.V. firefighters when
someone needed help with an
oxygen tank because of a
power interruption.
*From Westside Road
came a call advising of a forth-
coming party about which a
neighbor might complain.
*A drunk, driving a
pickup truck, was reported on
Laurel Road, but no troopers
or deputies were available.
*A Sherwood Avenue
resident said that a teen-age
boy keeps riding his dirt bike
up and down the street. There
was a similar complaint from
S. Junction Avenue.
*Harassment was re-
ported on S. Kerby Avenue.
*A deputy took a woman
on Holland Loop into custody
under a police officer’s men-
tal hold.
*Theft of two medical
marijuana plants was reported
on Warren Road.
*The cops were advised
of a man wearing blue jeans
and white T-shirt staggering
into traffic near milepost 15
of Hwy. 199.
*Extra patrol around the
valley looking for bad people
doing bad things was logged.
Friday, Sept. 26
*The areas of Holland
Store and Lake Selmac were
patrolled in the wee hours.
*Some kind of distur-
bance was reported at 1:40
a.m. on Hanby Lane, but the
complainant didn’t want to
press charges against her hus-
band, who had been drinking.
*Someone reported a
suspicious vehicle in the 5400
block of Holland Loop at
3:06 a.m. At least two people
were inside a vehicle with
tinted windows.
*Emergency personnel
responded at 3:43 a.m. to
Siskiyou Community Health Center would like to

Pine Ridge Trailer Park be-
cause of a woman said to be
trying to commit suicide. She
had to be restrained, and was
arrested under a police offi-
cer’s mental hold.
*Lester R. Ramsey, 58,
was arrested on a charge of
trespassing at Lake Selmac.
*Women were fighting
in Selma for some reason.
*It was “a closing error”
when the SOFCU Commu-
nity Credit Union office in CJ
was found open at 8:07 p.m.
It also was reported that jani-
tors were inside.
Saturday, Sept. 27
*A cleaning person dis-
covered a break-in with bro-
ken glass at the dental office
of Dr. Thomas Housel at
11:44 a.m. The door was un-
secured; no deputy was avail-
able. An inventory was to be
taken to see what might be
missing.
*Possible kidnapping
was reported at Jubilee Park.
But apparently not.
*A Selma man was wor-
ried because he couldn’t con-
tact his medical marijuana
farmer.
*A bunch of rowdy peo-
ple caused problems at the
county area of Lake Selmac.
Then they all left, taking their
problems with them.
*Brandon Shain Croft,
23, was cited in Kerby on a
charge of careless driving.
*Domestic violence was
the call in the 33000 block of
Hwy. 199 at 9:50 p.m., but no
one was arrested, and there
were no reported injuries.
Sunday, Sept. 28
*Dingie girls were said
to be running around ringing
doorbells on N. Junction Ave-
nue at 1:09 a.m. It’s been
occurring for at least a week,
the complainant said.
*More extra patrol was
logged around the valley.
*There was a disturbance
at River Valley Mobile Home
Park reported at 3:27 p.m.
*Some jerk was causing
a problem at Oregon Caves
Chevron by trying to start
fights. He finally left.
*Timothy J. Hunt, 56,
was cited at Hwy. 199 and
Westside Road on a charge of
driving 64 mph in a 45 zone.
Tuesday, Sept. 30
*At 1:07 a.m., the area of
Lake Selmac was patrolled.
*Because she was ac-
cused of biting a man’s left
nipple at 27890 Hwy. 199, a
woman was “trespassed.”
*At 1:23 p.m. in the
28000 block of Hwy. 199, a
woman said that she wanted
to die.
*There was a report at
8:44 p.m. that people in Jubi-
lee Park were smoking either
marijuana or crack, and that a
small child was with them.
*People in O’Brien had a
situation in which a husband
said that his wife was break-
ing in and looking for money.
*Illinois River “Forks”
Park, O’Brien Country Store,
Lorna Byrne Middle School
and Evergreen Elementary
School were patrolled.
*David A. Wonderling,
44, was cited on a charge of
DWS on Holland Loop, and
his vehicle was impounded.
*In the 7800 block of
Takilma Road at 11:42 p.m.,
Robert J. Harrison, 40, was
arrested under a warrant
charging second-degree
criminal mischief, and cited
on a DWS charge. His quad
was impounded.
Wednesday, Oct. 1
*Jubilee Park in Cave
Junction was checked for any
problems at 1:16 a.m.
*Someone stopped at
Hwy. 199 and Laurel Road at
1:17 a.m. for defective equip-
ment, apparently on his car,
had already been stopped by
another deputy.
*“Everything was OK”
after a 911 hang-up call from
the 1600 block of Crooks
Creek Road. And a child, 2,
might have been talked to.
*A speeder was warned
on Hwy. 199 in Kerby.
*James Mutina, 56, aka
“Red-Eye,” was told to move
on, as he was in front of a
Downtown CJ business. He
wasn’t wanted there.
*A runaway boy, 15, was
at IVHS and was picked up
by his mother.
*In O’Brien a couple had
a situation with child custody
and a bipolar condition.
*Although it appeared to
a civilian on Upper Deer
Creek Road that someone had
exhumed a casket, that was
found to be unfounded.
*Described as a fugitive,
Clinton R. Markl, 23, was
arrested on E. River Street
under an OSP warrant charg-
ing failure to appear (FTA) in
connection with dangerous
drugs.
*Subsequent to a com-
plaint that her husband tried to
strangle her in O’Brien,
Michele J. Anderson, 32, was
arrested on charges of fourth-
degree felony domestic as-
sault, and strangulation.
*People in the 37000
block of Hwy. 199 had a situa-
tion involving a locked shed,
personal belongings, and re-
ported threats to the complain-
ant about blowing off his head.
*In Selma, a man said
that his son, 16, ran away
from home.
*Some sort of trespassing
call was received from Sports-
man Tavern in CJ.
*After concern about an
83-year-old man in Cave
Junction who couldn’t be con-
tacted, Illinois Valley fire-
fighters were called to “make
entry.” The man wasn’t home;
there was no resolution.
*After a woman dialed
911 from the Junction Inn
about a nose bleed, she was
advised about improper use of
the emergency line.
*A woman at “Forks”
Park was advised of open
hours at 10:27 p.m.
*The Cedar Brook area
on Laurel Road was patrolled
at 11:40 p.m., and Rough &
Ready Lumber Co. at 11:42
p.m., apparently by two differ-
ent deputies or one with a
really fast car.
*Today and during other
days in this report, deputies
stopped various vehicles to
warn numerous drivers about
speeding, defective lighting
and other such stuff.
Thursday, Oct. 2
*There was a red Pontiac
blocking the roadway in the
6000 block of Deer Creek
Road at 6:07 a.m. Then it was
gone without explanation.
*Following two hang-up
911 calls from the 2000 block
of Dick George Road, it was
determined that they were
made by a girl, 4, playing
with a telephone.
*No injuries were re-
ported from an 8:31 a.m. traf-
fic accident at the intersection
of Hwys. 199 and 46. Drivers
were identified as Cedar Yan-
dell, 24; and Lloyd K. Hipp
Jr., 29.
*When a residential
alarm was received at 9:15
a.m. from Lone Mountain
Road, the alarm company
was notified.
*In Grants Pass at the
Juvenile Justice Center, an
alarm was said to be caused
by a chair.
*Some sort of scuffle,
involving approximately nine
people, was reported at 10:11
a.m. outside Art’s Red Garter.
No charges were filed, as
apparently no one was so
inclined, and it appeared to be
no big deal.
*Two of Downtown
Cave Junction’s favorite street
people, Neil White and
Charlie Vile, were contacted
in front of a store at 12:26 a.m.
*Classified as a landlord/
tenant dispute, there was a
complaint from 291 S. Old
Stage Road that people al-
lowed to spend the night
wouldn’t leave when asked,
and were being threatening.
*Leonard C. Holland Jr.,
22, was cited into Cave Junc-
tion Municipal Court on a
citation charging DWS after
being stopped on Hwy. 46.
*Melissa Jayne Lowen-
stein, 41, was arrested under
several warrants in Down-
town Cave Junction. Charges
included driving under the
influence of an intoxicant
(DUII), second-degree crimi-
nal mischief, and first-degree
criminal trespass.
*Threats of stabbing a
boy and a girl, made by a
named suspect who is a stu-
dent, were reported at IVHS.
*After reported threats
by a man to burn a house in
O’Brien, the information was
logged.
*While speaking with his
mother in rural Cave Junc-
tion, said a man from another
county, she began screaming
and then the phone went
dead. A deputy responded
and was told by the mother
that she was screaming be-
cause something good hap-
pened, and she didn’t know
how they got disconnected.
*Jubilee Park was
checked at 6 and 9:02 p.m.
*“Forks” Park at the
south end of Cave Junction
was checked at 7:10 p.m.
Galen Aller, 60, was cited
under a warrant charging
FTA on a DUII charge.
*The area of O’Brien
Country Store & Deli was
checked at 10:25 p.m.
*Upon coming upon a
man, 21, and a woman, 18, in
the 4000 block of Waldo
Road, and finding that they
had been stranded by a third
unnamed person, a deputy
provided a courtesy ride into
Cave Junction.
*The Lake Selmac area
was checked at 10:26 p.m.,
and the Holland Store area at
11:39 p.m.
