MEASURE ELECTION NOTICE NOTICE OF MEASURE ELECTION NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, an election will be held within the boundaries of Josephine County, Oregon. The election shall be conducted by mail. The following question will be submitted to the qualified vot- ers thereof: ILLINOIS VALLEY RURAL FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT Five – Year Local Option Levy Question: Shall the Illinois Valley Fire District impose $1.68/$1,000 assessed value levy for general operations beginning 2009-2010 for a five-year period? This measure may cause property taxes to increase more than three percent. Summary: Illinois Valley Fire District will use the tax reve- nue from this measure to increase paid fire- fighters and emergency medical services per- sonnel. The proposed tax will result in a rate increase of $1.68/$1,000 of assessed value per year. It is estimated that the proposed rate will raise approximately $764,897 in the fiscal year 2009-2010; $787,843 in fiscal year 2010-2011; $811,481 in fiscal year 2011-2012; $835,825 in fiscal year 2012-2013; and $860,900 in fiscal year 2013-2014. The estimated tax cost for this measure is an ESTIMATE ONLY based on the best informa- tion available from the county assessor at the time of estimate. Example: Every $100,000 of County assessed property value*, would require $168.00 per year (or $14.00 per month). *Not real market value or private appraisal value. Gordon H. Smith (R) and Ron Wyden (D) have joined forces in an effort to improve mental health-care ser- vices for America’s veterans by introducing the Healing Our Na- tion’s Heroes Act of 2008. The bill would establish a commission to oversee services provided to veterans and members of the Armed Forces, and would recruit and train veterans to serve in the mental health-care profes- sion. “Whether it is referred to as post-traumatic stress disorder, shell shock or combat fatigue, these very serious mental illnesses deserve equal attention and care as a physical wound,” said Smith. “Our goal is to ensure that our heroes in arms face no short- age of trained professionals avail- able to treat their unique health care needs.” Said Wyden, “Surviving the trauma of combat shouldn’t sen- tence our forces to a lifetime of mental and emotional pain. This bill will help them move beyond the invisible scars of the battlefield and rebuild their lives at home.” In July 2007, Smith and Wy- den conducted a Senate Special Committee on Aging field hearing at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Oregon. Testi- mony of officials from the Veter- ans Administration, as well as lo- cal programs that support veterans’ mental and physical health, identi- fied the scope of issues and barri- ers facing veterans in need of care. Based on input from the hear- ing, the Smith/Wyden legislation aims to ensure that the mental health infrastructure is prepared to handle veterans’ needs. illinois-valley-news.com SHORT NOTICE ESTATE With REAL ESTATE WITH RESPECT THE ESTATE OF FORREST SWETT AND THE LIVING ESTATE OF ANNA SWETT PLUS THE INVENTORY OF “ANNA’S TREASURES” FOR 23+ YEARS.
