each year. On Mother’s Day weekend,
it provides hors d’oeuvres, live music
and wine at reduced prices on Satur-
day and Sunday. Around Oct. 1, the
Gerbers hold a Harvest Case Sale. On
the weekend following Thanksgiving,
they have a wine-tasting event.

Vineyard owners are plagued by a
variety of varmints, from insects to
deer to bears. Asked how he keeps
bears out of the grapes, Gerber said
that he has two dogs to chase them
out. Using a novel approach, he also
plays several radios in the vineyards at
night, tuned to a talk radio station. He
said that this is very effective at keep-
ing bears away.
Down the road from Foris at 4210
Holland Loop is Bridgeview Vine-
yards & Winery, owned by Bob &
Lelo Kerivan. Set beside a large, pretty
pond, Bridgeview’s wine-tasting room
has a spacious deck where weddings,
parties and fund-raisers are held.
Visitors may picnic outdoors and
watch the swans, geese and ducks on
the pond, and large trout in the pond.
The Kerivan Family started the
vineyard in 1986. Bridgeview now has
nearly 200 acres in grapes in the Illi-
nois and Applegate valleys. Lelo’s
son, René, came to Cave Junction
from Germany in 1980 to work in the
family business, and he is now the
winemaker.
Bridgeview quickly became well-
known on the West Coast and is now
one of the largest wineries in Oregon.
Bridgeview bottles its wines under the
Blue Moon and Black Beauty labels,
besides the Bridgeview labels, and are
moderately priced.
Buyers can choose from German
white wines to Merlot, Pinot Noir,
Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Special
offers are available at the tasting room
or via bridgeview.com.
Bridgeview’s entertaining facili-
ties make it a hot spot for summer
dinner parties and fund-raising events
by local schools and non-profit organi-
zations. A fun Grape Stomp event will
be hosted by Illinois Valley Chamber
of Commerce on Sept. 20 at Bridge-
view.
At 2789 Holland Loop is 50-acre
Windridge Vineyard Estate founded in
1989. Owners Cate & Terry Bendock
bought the vineyard in 1998, and bot-
tle Pinot Noir wine under the Bendock
Estate label. The vineyard is home to
pinot noir grapes, Galloway cattle,
orchards and gardens.
Windridge is open for tours and
tastings from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. most
days. The tasting room can be con-
