During the March 5 segment, Kristy sang “Faithfully,” and the judges commended her “Country-kind of lilt.” So, in her ef- fort to please the judges and showcase her Country charm, she sang the Beatle’s Eight Days a Week with a Country beat. Unfor- tunately, critic Simon Cowell described her singing as, “Horrendous -- like Dolly Parton on helium.” Critic Paula Abdul advised Cook, who claims Selma as her hometown, that she “shouldn’t take what we say too much to heart.” The tension built last week as Cook and two other contend- ers stood waiting through commercial breaks to discover who would be dropped from the contest. Finally, those anxiously awaited words, “After 29 million votes, America has decided. Kristy, you are safe!” The Selma songbird should still feel special -- after all, she’s not in the bottom three, she is in the top 11 out of 100,000 singers. -Zina Booth There is a free lunch!
