Friday, Feb. 22
*Fraud because of a Ni-
gerian scam was reported by
an O’Brien resident who sent
$400 to someone before real-
izing she had been bamboo-
zled.
*A boy ran away from
Illinois Valley High School
after a fight with his girl-
friend.
*In Downtown CJ, Ray-
mond R. Karczewski, 70, was
cited on a charge of driving
while suspended (DWS). He
refused the citation, and it
was placed on his windshield.
*Child abuse was sus-
pected in Cave Junction. The
parties were to seek resolu-
tion regarding custody
through the court system.
*Two men were said
involved in a disturbance in
Downtown CJ. One had a
knife, and one was kicking.
They both left the scene.
*A tenant on Rockydale
Road was afraid that his land-
lord would assault him. She
has entered his part of the
dwelling, he reported.
*Guns, knives and tools
were reported stolen from a
home in the 3000 block of
Rockydale Road.
*On Westside Road a
man said that children inad-
vertently saw pornography he
had on a computer screen.
And a complainant said that
the children reported that
their father had smacked
them, but it was unknown if it
was discipline.
*Robert James Myers,
37, was arrested in CJ after a
disturbance at a business in
which a man said he was hit
on his head with a bottle, and
that the attacker told him his
wife should be shot dead.
Myers was arrested under
three warrants.
*Angelina L. Alexander,
38, was arrested on June
Drive on charges of fourth-
degree assault/domestic vio-
lence, and menacing/
domestic violence.
*After a girl, 17, was
“beyond parental control” and
banging her head on a wall,
the situation was calmed
down.
*Harassment was re-
ported on Rockydale Road
involving a tenant and land-

didn’t like his smoking.
*Following a 911 hang-
up call from Holland Loop, a
woman claimed she was try-
ing to dial 411. She didn’t
sound convincing, a call-taker
said.
*Loud music was com-
plained about at 10:59 p.m. in
the 5000 block of Westside
Road. The complainant, who
said he couldn’t sleep, stated
that his attorney told him to
call.
Saturday, Feb. 23
*Someone phoned at
1:40 a.m. from Downtown
Cave Junction to report two
men fighting, a woman
screaming and a “vegetable”
lying on the roadway. A man
apparently had fainted.
*After being grounded
for two weeks for running
away, a girl left home with a
backpack full of clothing,
possible headed to Selma
from Cave Junction.
*Custodial interference
was termed a civil matter on
Holland Loop.
*The landlord of a man
in the 1000 block of Rocky-
dale Road said that he was
yelling, cursing, pounding on
the walls and saying he
needed money for food. Then
all was OK.
*Vernonique Desiree
McWest, 26, was cited in
Downtown CJ on a charge of
driving while suspended
(DWS) at 8:42 p.m. She was
warned for driving without
lights, expired tags and not
having proof of insurance.
*A campfire at Illinois
River “Forks” State Park was
checked at 8:52 p.m.
*Although aerial fire-
works were reported at 9:10
p.m. in the vicinity of W.
Lister Street, they weren’t
located.
Sunday, Feb. 24
*At 23 past midnight
near milepost 26 of Redwood
Hwy., Art H. Durtsche II, 38,
was cited on a charge of
speeding; 78 mph in a 55
zone.
*Civil options were sug-
gested in connection with a
disturbance in the 10000
block of Takilma Road at
12:41 a.m.
*Somebody apparently
goofed at Lorna Byrne Mid-
dle School at 2:31 p.m., as
they set off an alarm, but
were authorized to be there.
*No injuries were re-
ported following an 8:31 p.m.
crash near milepost 39 of
Redwood Hwy. Indications
were that the driver was Ryan
M. Mjelde, 20.
Monday, Feb. 25
*There was a hold-up
alarm from the Evergreen
Elementary School computer
room at 6:24 a.m., but no
deputy was available.
*An Illinois Valley High
School student was reported
by his mother as a runaway
juvenile person after she left
him at school. He was seen
walking away and was not in
class.
*On Lakeshore Drive, a
woman was pushed aside in
her living room by another
woman who entered without
permission and sat in her hus-
band’s chair. She appeared to
be “stoned” and it looked as
though she’d waded in a creek.
*Theft of tools including
a chainsaw, with a total value
of $699 from an unlocked
shed in the 500 block of
Caves Hwy., was reported.
*Damage to a glass door
at Federal Paralegal Inc. was
estimated at $140.
*After knocking over
ashtrays in front of the Jose-
phine County Bldg. in Down-
town Cave Junction, a boy,
13, was warned about his
actions.
*Assault on Taurus Lane
was reported by a man who
listed a woman as the as-
saulter. He added that she
took some items that belong
to him.
*Criminal mischief and
possible burglary were re-
ported in the 700 block of
Caves Hwy. A broken win-
dow was valued at $50.
*Trespassing and at-
tempted burglary of a riding
lawnmower were complained
about in the 2000 block of
Dick George Road.
*Thirty minutes of a
“blaring stereo” were the
topic of a noise complaint
from the 5000 block of
Westside Road. The volume
was to be reduced at 10 p.m.,
when the county noise ordi-
nance takes effect.
*Many antiques and
tools were said stolen from a
vacant home on N. Old Stage
Road. The thieves left two
cans of soda with possible
fingerprints. A brick was
thrown through French doors
to gain entry.
*Some sort of custody
agreement situation was
logged on W. River Street.
*Two people having
problems with their narcotic
meds were counseled in the
24000 block of Redwood
Hwy. after the woman in-
volved said he pushed her.
*There was a noise com-
plaint from the 5000 block of
Westside Road at 10:43 p.m.,
but a deputy heard no noise.
Tuesday, Feb. 26
*A suspect was in mind
in a continuing situation on
Thompson Creek Road in-
volving a mailbox being
smashed and the post dam-
age. The cost was estimated
at $100.
*Some 2 miles up
Reeves Creek Road, an offi-
cer was checking for an area
where people dump (trash)
illegally.
Wednesday, Feb. 27
*Repairing front door
damage cost $612, and the
punks took electronic equip-
ment worth $2,570 during a
break-in at CJ Video Mart/
Radio Shack in Downtown
Cave Junction. An alarm
sounded at 12:14 a.m.
*In the 3000 block of
Illinois River Road, a man
was warned because he didn’t
have a permit for special for-
est products.
*Two men in Selma in
the proximity of a pregnant
woman were reported fight-
ing at 3:21 p.m. No crime
was involved; all parties were
counseled.
*A Selma resident com-
plaining about receiving un-
wanted telephone calls from
Pennsylvania was advised to
contact authorities there.
*Because of driving too
rapidly, a man was warned
near milepost 18 of Redwood
Hwy. at 4:03 p.m.
*Items valued at $2,700
were reported stolen from a
shed in Selma on property
marked as a former meth lab.
*Neighborly trespassing
was complained about in
O’Brien. It was determined to
be a civil matter.
*A “blaring stereo” had
been going since noon, said a
resident on Westside Road at
5:35 p.m. “Kids” whose par-
ents were not home were
counseled.
*On Rockydale Road,
Robert James Harrison, 39,
was cited on charges of first-
degree driving while sus-
pended, and under a warrant
for FTA on a charge of sec-
ond-degree criminal mischief.
*That “blaring stereo”
was reported again at 7:55
p.m. A deputy responded and
found on his arrival that the
music was “not unreasonably
loud.” The stereo controller
volunteered to reduce volume.
*Today and during other
days in this report, a whole
bunch of drivers throughout
the valley were warned for
infractions including VBR/
(violation of the basic rule;
driving too fast for condi-
tions), failure to signal, speed-
ing, failure to dim headlights,
and defective equipment,
mostly lighting; mostly tail
lights.
*Brent E. Benschoter,
37, was arrested in Cave
Junction under warrants
charging contempt of court,
and FTA on an original
charge of contempt.
*Neighbors “just turned
the music back up again,” a
Westside Road resident said
at 9:48 p.m. When a deputy
arrived, no music was play-
ing. Mediation was sug-
gested.
*Loud music again was
reported at 10:45 p.m. on
Westside Road, but the com-
plaint was termed unfounded,
as deputies in the area heard
nothing (musical).
*I.V. High School was
checked at 11 p.m.
*The area of McMullen
Creek Road was checked at
10:58 p.m. after a Neighbor-
hood Watch complaint about
someone driving up and down
the roadway toward “a meth
house,” the complainant said.
*The owner of a
semitruck (just the tractor)
parked at the I.V. Substation
moved it.
*Vandals again damaged
the same two mailboxes on
Thompson Creek Road, a
man said, who again esti-
mated damage at $100.
*Someone reported a
gray car needing a paint job
near S. Kerby Avenue and
Schumacher Street at 2:10
p.m. The complainant said it
was suspicious because the
person in the driver’s seat
kept nodding off, nearly fal-
ling from the car, and there
was “lots of foot traffic to and
from the car.” It was gone
when a deputy arrived.
*“Forks” State Park was
checked at 8:42 p.m.
*Screaming and yelling
were reported on Norman
Road at 9:09 p.m. involving a
possible illegal open burn.
Then all was OK.
*People on Naue Way
were greatly upset at trespass-
ers who went through a BLM
gate around 9:26 p.m. The
residents had weapons; a tres-
passer threatened to “drop”
one resident. The interlopers
left, and a beer can was
found, which the residents
thought could be used to ob-
tain fingerprints. They were
advised to dispose of it.
*At 9:42 p.m., it was
reported that a “male tran-
sient” was urinating from the
rear of a CJ business, and that
he had a warming fire. No one
nor nothing were located.
*No crime was detected
in connection with a reported
incident of harassment in
Selma at 11:22 p.m. Both
parties were counseled.
*Following a complaint
from Waldo Road that a man
had been beaten, a report was
pending on first-degree bur-
glary involving chain saws,
and fourth-degree assault.
American Medical Response
took the beaten man to Three
Rivers Community Hospital.
Thursday, Feb. 28
*Michael G. Misek, 42, of
O’Brien, was cited at approxi-
mately 3 p.m. on a charge of
driving under the influence of
an intoxicant on Redwood
Hwy. near Patton Bar Road.
He also was cited on a charge
of possession of less than 1
ounce of marijuana.
*Someone drove away
with a red Toyota pickup
truck that’s not theirs, it was
reported from Madrona
Drive. The license plate is
YLP 640.
