Seven men in vehicle with 14 pounds of pot arrested An Oregon State Police traffic stop on Interstate 5 south of Roseburg in Doug- las County led to the arrest of seven people and the sei- zure of more than 14 pounds of marijuana and several firearms. At approximately 1:22 a.m. recently, an OSP trooper stopped a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe with Washington license plates. The vehicle, northbound near milepost 119, was stopped for an equipment lighting violation. A second trooper arrived to assist, and both detected a strong odor of marijuana. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Dept. deputy with a drug detection canine and other OSP troopers re- sponded. Officers from Douglas Interagency Nar- cotics Team (DINT) also responded to the scene and assisted troopers. The seven occupants were detained, and a firearm was discovered in the waist- band of passenger Rafael Contreras, 18. The canine alerted on the rear of vehicle where officers found approxi- mately 14.5 pounds of mari- juana in a black garbage bag. Four more handguns were found in various loca- tions inside the vehicle, two of which had serial numbers removed. Officers also found $1,500 cash. All seven occupants were arrested and lodged at Douglas County Jail for delivery, possession, and manufacturing a controlled substance/marijuana; unlaw- ful possession of a firearm; and, obliteration of a serial number from a firearm. The seven suspects, be- sides Rafael Contreras, are identified as the driver, Teodulo Valencia, 29; Ri- cardo Valencia, 18; Maxi- milla Valencia, 18; Rivera Contreras, 29; Gerardo Ayala, 18; and Salvador Contreras-Paria, 40. Their places of residence were not immediately known. Investigation continues. Guv seeks Canadian business, eh? Gov.
