Stabbing death heads various incidents in city of GP
A stabbing death, a
bank holdup, and a case
of multiple assaults and
criminal mischief have
kept officers of the
Grants Pass Dept. of Pub-
lic Safety (GPDPS) busy
recently.
Described as a tran-
sient, the body of Wayne
Alex Brueggeman, 25,
was found behind the
main post office on Mon-
day morning, Sept. 24.
An autopsy determined
that he died of multiple
stab wounds.
GPDPS officers, with
the help of Josephine
County Sheriff’s Office
and Oregon State Police,
arrested a suspect on
Thursday, Sept. 27. He is
identified as Bridge
Street resident Donovan
David Dawson, 21.
Charged with murder
and fourth-degree assault,
Dawson is in county jail.
On Saturday, Sept.
29, GPDPS officers re-
sponded at 2:35 p.m. to
Wells Fargo Bank on
Sixth Street. The suspect
demanded cash from a
teller while threatening
with an undisclosed
weapon, said GPDPS.
He left with cash. He
is described as a white
male adult 45 to 50 years
old, weighing around 180
pounds. He has gray hair.
On Monday, Sept. 24,
officers and American
Medical Response went
to 210 Rogue River Ave.
following a report of as-
sault.
Subsequently, Allen
Douglas Von Nevin Jr.,
28, was charged with sec-
ond-degree assault, and
jailed.
The victim was iden-
tified
as
Jeffrey
Dickerson, 40. He suf-
fered head trauma, while
the suspect suffered a
broken hand, said
GPDPS.
Officers on Sunday,
Sept. 23, arrested Kristo-
pher S. Johnson, 41. He
was charged with two
counts of second-degree
burglary, first-degree
theft, and second-degree
criminal trespass.
The suspect was
found at a tire store on
Union Avenue after a
burglar alarm sounded.
Other similar crimes
might be solved with his
arrest, officers said.
Four victims were
reported on Sept. 18, and
officers are seeking the
suspect vehicle in the
cases of assault and
criminal mischief.
The cases involve two
men in a pickup truck,
who in one instance
threw an AA battery at a
couple and their baby.
The 1-year-old infant suf-
fered a bruise with swell-
ing behind his left ear.
The geniuses in the
pickup also threw items
at three adults, causing
minor injuries.
And they shattered a
rear window on a vehicle
owned by one victim, and
caused a bicyclist to
crash.

*Thieves drove a red-
colored Toyota pickup truck
with a white canopy through
a steel gate to steal it from a
Takilma Road resident, it
was reported.
*Talent Police sought
information about a silver-
colored pickup truck in-
volved in an accident, as the
vehicle is registered to a
Cave Junction resident.
*A Selma resident re-
ported receiving phone calls
from a man threatening to
shoot her and her husband
for some reason.
*People ordered by the
court to vacate a residence
on S. Sawyer Avenue were
refusing to do so and being
verbally abusive, a caller
said.
Thursday, Sept. 20
*Community Oriented
Patrols began in Selma loca-
tions around midnight, and
officers cruised the area for
approximately 40 minutes.
*Reported by a sheriff’s
office volunteer to be stum-
bling from his vehicle at
12:56 a.m. in the 24000
block of Redwood Hwy.,

Randy D. Kuhn, 49, was
cited on a charge of DUII.
His blood alcohol content
was reported to be .19. His
vehicle was impounded.
*Two cell phones were
reported lost, but probably
not by cell phone.
*Investigating a report
of disorderly conduct at Illi-
nois Valley Visitor Center at
1:45 p.m., an officer warned
two men about trespassing.
They probably were not
tourists.
*Two elk hides were
left with a tanner three years
ago, a man complained, and
the tanner would not return
his phone calls or the hides.
The matter was determined
civil in nature.
*A mother on Rockydale
Road was advised of her op-
tions, and her children coun-
seled regarding their behav-
ior, after it was reported that
the 16-year-old was “beyond
parental control.”
*A manager at a Cave
Junction business com-
plained that someone who
was not a deputy, but
dressed like one, was har-
assing employees, who
worked after closing, about
parking in handicapped
spaces. The person threat-
ened to fine the store if em-
ployees violated parking
laws, it was reported.
Friday, Sept. 21
*An alarm was heard in
the 5000 block of Dick
George Road at 4:14 p.m.
*After threatening sui-
cide, and other people on
Hogue Drive with a 12-
gauge shotgun, Edwin Obed
Scott, 40, was cited on
charges of being a felon in
possession of a firearm and
pointing a firearm at an-
other. He was lodged in Jo-
sephine County Jail.
*Loud music and talk-
ing were heard over an open
cell phone connection from
Jeannie Way at 9:35 p.m.,
but otherwise there was no
trouble at the residence.
Saturday, Sept. 22
*David Lee Howell, 22,
was cited on a charge of
driving with a suspended
license in the 32000 block
of Redwood Hwy. His vehi-
cle was impounded.
*A driver was warned
about an illegally parked
vehicle on E. River Street.

*Some 20 to 30 people
were involved in a fight be-
hind a Cave Junction water-
ing hole at 10:45 p.m., a
deputy said. No one was
willing to pursue charges or
explain who started the
fight. Three people were
“86’d” for the remainder of
the evening.
Sunday, Sept. 23
*Four or five young-
sters were cavorting on the
roof of Evergreen Elemen-
tary School at 1:36 a.m.,
according to a caller.
*Michael John Sullivan,
23, was cited on a charge of
failure to comply in connec-
tion with DUII. He and his
companion also were ad-
vised of the public hours at
Illinois River “Forks” State
Park, and they agreed to
leave the location.
*Again getting high
without alcohol, young peo-
ple were said to be frolick-
ing on the roof at Lorna
Byrne Middle School at
7:30 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 24
*Theft of a soft-top
made for a Suzuki vehicle
was reported in the 23000
block of Redwood Hwy.
*A parent of an LBMS
student reported a pattern of
harassment that he stated is
racially motivated.
*On Mona Way, theft
of firewood from a garage
was reported.
*Someone in a brown-
colored pickup truck was
chasing her daughter, a Hol-
land Loop mother reported.
*A 5-year-old was re-
ported missing from her
home on Honeybee Lane,
but soon located asleep in a
closet.
*Anthony James
Gallegos, 20, was cited on a
charge of driving without a
license in the 200 block of
Redwood Hwy. at 3:52 p.m.
His vehicle was impounded.
*Five intoxicated va-
grants were camping on her
S. Hussey Avenue property,
a woman complained.
