A feast for the senses
Friday, Sept. 14 offers cornucopia of creativity
Cave Junction’s second
Friday Art Walk promises to
be a rich blend of sensory
experiences: Art, good food
and lots of music.
During this favorite
Illinois Valley community
event which will begin at 5
p.m. on Sept. 14, the
public also will have
the opportunity to
meet with lo-
cal artists
and discuss
their work on
a first-hand basis.
Artists Karen
Stiles, Cassandra New-
ton-Miller, George Rich-
ards, Marsha Nilles, Katrina
Menschenfriend, Patsy
Heller, and John Stiwinter
will show a wide variety of
woodworking, engraving,
water colors, oil painting,
scratch art, mixed media and
pottery. Dr. Jim Nordal will
give pottery demonstrations
at the I.V. Thrift Shop oper-
ated by I.V. Senior Center.
Music for Second Fri-
day will include: Cole
Brashear playing acoustic
guitar at Sassy’s Imports,
Tim & Michelle’s unique
eclectic blend at Taylor’s
Country Store, the I.V.
String Band at Bagel Junc-
tion, and Country music
favorites Dale & Sharon
Hopper featuring their sing-
ing dog “Claude” Hopper at
Special Productions.
The public is encour-
aged to bring dancing shoes
for this finger-snapping,
five-star variety show.
In addition, acoustic
musicians will perform at
Nacho Mama’s Cantina
while an unusual new form
of art-making will be ex-
plored. The public can par-
ticipate in public art sculp-
ture and to “bring your own
bra.” Prizes will be awarded
for creativity and having a
good time.
For the first time the
I.V. Visitor Center on
Caves Hwy. will
participate in Art
Walk.
Foris
Vineyards
will intro-
duce its new
Cave Bear Red
Wine, and artisans
from the Chateau Gift
Gallery will present a col-
lection from the fine arts
that are displayed at the
Chateau.
Here’s your chance to
see and taste samples with-
out having to drive up the
mountain to the Caves, said
sponsors.
Delicious aromas and
epicurean delights round out
this appeal to the senses. A
variety of pizzas will be
available at Bagel Junction,
a “Big Barbecue Plate” at
Taylor’s and barbecue sand-
wiches at Special Produc-
tions. Plus, refreshments
will be offered at an Artist’s
Way, the I.V. Senior Thrift
Shop, and Jefferson State
Financial Group.
Art Walk events are
sponsored by the Illinois
River Valley Arts Council
and supported by Evergreen
Federal Bank, Southern
Oregon Guild and the par-
ticipating valley businesses.
