A memorial service for
Selma resident William James
“Jim” Dobie, 62, who died
Sunday, May 27, 2007, will
begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, June
9 at The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints Chapel in
Cave Junction.
Bishop Charles Rigby will
officiate.
Mr. Dobie died at Three
Rivers Community Hospital in
St. Patrick of the Forest
Catholic Church
For the observance of
Most Holy Body & Blood of
Christ Sunday, June 10, the
story of loaves and fishes will
be recalled.
Jesus spoke to a crowd of
5,000 about the Kingdom of
God and healed many. All
needed to be fed and there
were only five loaves and two
fish. Jesus blessed them, and
the disciples set the food before
the crowd. When the leftovers
were picked up, they filled 12
wicker baskets.

He was born to William
& Belle Pratt Dobie on April 9,
1945 in Oakridge, Ore. Not
long after his birth, the family
moved to Grants Pass, where
he lived for two years before
the family relocated to Selma.
He attended Selma Elementary
School, Kerby Junior High
School, and Illinois Valley
outpouring of His blessings as
funds continue to arrive for this
new Christian station that will
reach more than 500,000 peo-
ple with the message of God’s
saving power and love.
On Saturday, May 26,
Pastor Verne Hyland gave Part
2 of his message, “Twenty-four
Hours With Christ.” The Mark
4:36-40 Scripture text brought
us into the heart of the message
as the pastor vividly portrayed
the Savior sleeping quietly in a
boat as the disciples tried to
stay afloat during a violent
storm on the Sea of Galilee.
Power Point colorful scenes on
a large screen were shown dur-
ing the presentation.
Pastor and Mrs. Hyland
visited the Holy Land and
stood by the Sea of Galilee
observing fisherman mending
their nets following the cus-
toms of their forefathers.
The climatic story was of a
jet flying over the Atlantic
Ocean with fearful passengers
as a violent storm tried to suck
the large plane into the sea. The
severe storm brought the plane
close to destruction. But a mis-
sionary aboard noticed a calm
little girl sitting alone reading,
ignoring the screams and shouts
of the frightened passengers.
After the plane made an
emergency landing, the mis-
sionary asked the girl why she
wasn’t acting like the rest of
the passengers. She said, “My
Daddy is the pilot, and he is
taking me home.”
Pastor Hyland said that we
need to trust the loving Lord,
as He is caring for us in all the
storms of life. and He is also
going to take us Home, our
Heavenly Home. Following the
service, another delicious fel-
lowship lunch was enjoyed by
everyone.

Mr. Dobie served in the
U.S. Navy for four years. He
was stationed aboard the USS
“Princeton,” a helicopter car-
rier. He worked 10 years as a
mechanic, including three
years with Boeing Aircraft Co.
Later, he drove log and rock
trucks for 28 years.
He was a 50-year member
of The LDS Church Cave
Junction Ward. His hobbies
included fishing, hunting, gar-
dening, and watching birds at
his feeders.
He is survived by his
mother, Belle Dobie, of Selma;
and two brothers, Gary Dobie,
of Selma, and Brian Dobie, of
West Valley City, Utah.

Thompson, 57, dead in Clear
Creek on Sunday, June 3, said
the county sheriff’s office.
Friends reported Thomp-
son missing Sunday at ap-
proximately 2:38 a.m. after
he had not been seen since
Friday evening, June 1, said
Sheriff Gil Gilbertson.
SAR was mobilized
shortly before noon Sunday.
Personnel were told that
Thompson had last been seen
near Clear Creek. He was
found in the creek at 1:57
p.m., and indications are that
he might have drowned.
An autopsy is scheduled.
