Pregnancy Center marks 20th
A 20th anniversary celebration for Pregnancy Center
of the Illinois Valley was held Saturday, April 28 at I.V.
Senior Center with a meal catered by Carlos’ Mexican
Restaurante. The event also included performances by
‘Wings of Love,’ with Southern Gospel music. Among
those honored (from left) were the founding mothers
of the center: Darla Nehf, Elizabeth Rooney, Lyn Berry
and Judy Christopher. Mary Lefner, center executive
director, served as master of ceremonies. As part of
the celebration and fund-raiser a silent auction was
held featuring items donated by Illinois Valley and
Grants Pass businesses. The center offers many pro-

AN ENVIRONMENTAL ART OUTING at Illinois River
‘Forks’ State Park was conducted Tuesday, April 24.
Illinois Valley High School students, in a group that
has come to be known as the ‘Doodlebugs,’ worked
with students from I.V. Head Start in Cave Junction.
The two groups had been studying the work of envi-
ronmental artist Andy Goldsworthy. Elaine Barker,
IVHS art teacher, said that the older students were im-
pressed with the work of their younger counterparts.
They meet with them each Tuesday. At the ’Forks’ the
students created a number of sculptures using natural

Leafy who’s who class May 10
A Native Tree Identifica-
tion workshop will be held
Thursday, May 10 at the Ore-
gon State University (OSU)
Extension Auditorium on
Ringuette Street in Grants Pass.
The free workshop will
run from 9 a.m. to noon.
The intent is to learn to
identify Oregon native trees
using a simple plant key. In-
structor Max Bennett, OSU
Forestry agent in Jackson and
Josephine counties, will use a
hands-on approach.
He will use the latest
edition of “Trees to Know in
Oregon,” published by OSU,
according to an announce-
ment.
