The road, in the general vicinity of Sunstar Ranch, also accesses private land. Some 0.3 miles of the road would be removed from the immediate riparian zone. Also, a low-water ford that now crosses a side channel of Dunn Creek would be eliminated. The road would be lo- cated farther from the Coho habitat and would not cross the side channel. The exist- ing road, said the forest ser- vice, would be decommis- sioned; drainage restored; and vegetation established. Comments are due by Tuesday, April 10 to jtking@fs.fed.us. A declaration “supporting the goal of mak- ing Josephine County the most drug-free and alcohol- inhibited free county in the United States” has been sup- ported 3-1 by the Cave Junc- tion City Council. Councilor Lynne Atte- berry voted “No.” Voting in support during the Monday, March 26 city council meet- ing were Mayor Tony Paul- son and council members Dan Fiske and Russell Ehr- man. Councilor Margaret Miller was absent. The request for council support of the declaration was made by Grants Pass resident David Lommel. Commitment to the goal of the declaration includes the notation that the council is “responding to a request submitted by a citizens group.” Further, the support is based on “the group” bring- ing its ideas for study by the council. “Without prior commit- ment, (we will) take it from there,” also is part of the essentially conditional sup- port by the council. Why celebrate it, when Easter is only a week away? Because it celebrates Je- sus’ mission on Earth: to bring forgiveness and salvation to the world. His only remaining task was to be crucified for us -- on Easter. But Palm Sunday is a day of celebration, for it com- memorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
