grant for the latter is not yet
definite, but IVFD staff and
directors are hopeful.
Besides staff, the

move hazard trees in this
high-use recreation area as
these are trees identified as
likely to fall and strike a
vehicle or fall on places
where people gather
such as picnic tables or
sleeping areas in the camp-
ground,” said Joel King,
Wild Rivers District ranger,
Rogue River-Siskiyou Na-
tional Forest.
These hazard trees are
dead or have advanced root
diseases that could endanger
campers and hikers.
“Removing these haz-
ard trees around camp-
grounds and roads could
protect property and poten-
tially save a life,” he said.
USFS is proposing to
fall or pull over the hazard
trees and place them in the
adjacent stream to enhance
salmon habitat on Sucker
Creek. These trees in
streams can provide shade
and cover for fish and pro-

species.

posed action is to conserve

In a related project, the
district is proposing to fur-
ther enhance salmon
habitat by pulling some ad-
jacent tree snags into Sucker
Creek. The present condi-
tion for Sucker Creek lacks
habitat diversity of large
wood. This action would
provide homes for water
plants and animals, spawn-
ing gravels, pools, and hid-
ing cover for fish.
