When the prodigal son
decided to return home, he was
willing to ask his father’s for-
giveness and be treated as a
hired hand.
But his father clothed him
in his finest robe and sandals,
gave him a ring and called for a
celebration. This message is
important to us because even
though we are sometimes reck-
less, our Heavenly Father will
forgive us our waywardness.

Gilbertson said that
Records personnel will con-
tinue to provide the best ser-
vice possible within their
limited hours. The reduction
in hours could mean longer
lines at the front counter; and
additional time “on hold” to
report incidents such as
thefts, runaways, criminal
mischief, suspicious inci-
dents, and harassment, the
sheriff said.
Last year, Records staff
answered approximately
50,000 telephone calls.
“We will have a back-
log in processing paper-
work,” said Gilbertson, “but
the main priority for the Re-
cords Division will remain
warrant processing and as-
sisting the Patrol Division.”
Due to a shortage in
personnel the Josephine
County Sheriff’s Office has
reduced the hours the Re-
cords Division is open for
nonemergency calls.
This does not affect 911
Emergency calls, which is
always available 24-hours-
a-day, said Sheriff Gil
Gilbertson.
As of Sunday, March
11, the Records Division is
open Mondays through Fri-
days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The reduction in hours
is a direct result of the pend-
ing loss of O&C funds, said
the sheriff.
He added that some
employees are leaving Jose-
phine County for jobs else-
where because of the com-
ing loss of federal monies
that will affect the county
