One of the hardest
things to do is to write about
yourself, but “Writing Your
Own Story: A Workshop on
Writing the Artist’s Bio &
Other Marketing Materials”
will ease the pain.
During this Saturday,
March 17 workshop from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Kerby,
participants will explore
their own lives and work to
discover their “stories” as
artists. They might even find
several stories.
Participants will work
with other workshop mem-
bers to tease out the most
interesting aspects of their
stories. They will work on
weaving that material to-
gether into an “artist’s biog-
raphy” that they can present
to galleries, museums,
agents, and show juries.
In the process, they
might find ideas for addi-
tional marketing pieces such
as brochure copy, ad copy
and feature article material.
The class will meet in
RCC’s computer classroom
adjacent to the Southern
Oregon Guild (SOG) Gal-
lery and Artists’ Center in
Kerby.
“We will begin collect-
ing ideas using pencil and
paper, but the computers
will then allow participants
to write and format a written
draft, with photo if you
bring one on a floppy, CD,
or portable drive,” said
Joyce Abrams, instructor.
“You can then email the
