Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, February 28, 2007 Man charged with shooting at policeman Forest-urban fire committee will meet Friday The Josephine County Forestland-Urban Interface Classification Committee will meet Friday, March 2 at 10 a.m. at the Oregon Dept. of Forestry’s (ODF) Grants Pass Unit at 5375 Monu- ment Drive. The committee will continue drafting maps of Josephine County land that meets criteria described in the Oregon Forestland- Urban Interface Fire Protec- tion Act of 1997, also known as Senate Bill 360. The committee focuses on developed urban and suburban land 10 acres in size or smaller, and which are grouped with other lots with similar characteristics. Owners of such land will be required to reduce poten- tially flammable vegetation around structures and along driveways. They left after he confronted them, he said. *After he was contacted for allegedly shoving a young man at a Cave Junc- tion store, a 53-year-old transient was warned against trespassing. *Items including a phone and MP3 player were missing when her daugh- ter’s purse was recovered, said the mother of an Illinois Valley High School student whose bag was reported taken during a class. *Although a “violent” disturbance was said under way in the 4000 block of Takilma Road around 9:30 p.m., all was calm when a Josephine County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) deputy re- sponded, and no sign of in- jury was reported. Saturday, Feb. 17 *James Thomas Evanow, 24, was cited on charges of violation of the basic rule (VBR/driving too fast for conditions) due ap- parently to speeding, and driving with a suspended license (DWS) in the 28000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 8 a.m. *Shortly after noon, William Dewayne Culbert- son, 33, was cited on a charge of driving without an operator’s permit, and warned for speeding near Lake Selmac Resort. *Sometime during the previous two weeks, entry was made to an E. River Street residence and items stolen, a man reported. Items included two rifles, a pair of backpacks and a cordless screw driver, he said. *A “very upset” man accused another of verbally and physically harassing him regarding a civil issue while in line at a CJ store. *Located at Lake Sel- mac, Terry Leslie Frost, 35, was lodged in county jail on warrants charging failure to appear (FTA) on felony charges of DWS and driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUII). And he was charged with probation violation. *A driver reported two deep trenches across Lone Mountain Road in the 3000 block, and was concerned that they might cause an accident. *In the 5000 block of Westside Road just before 8 p.m., a man said that all day his neighbor had been play- ing music loud enough to shake the interior of his home. Sunday, Feb. 18 *Not long after mid- night, Timothy Waddell, 18, backed into a JCSO patrol car on W. Watkins Street, but apparently there was no damage. He was cited on a charge of driving without insurance, and warned for careless driving and unlaw- ful backing on a roadway. *Two drivers, Betty E. Bice, 31; and Sierra R. Reed, 24, were cited on charges of DUII following field sobriety tests in the 200 block of Redwood Hwy. at 12:39 a.m. They also were warned for failure to use a turn signal, and Bice was warned for following too closely. *A cougar that did not appear too fearful of hu- mans was chased from a Laurel Road residence. *A woman on N. Junc- tion Avenue said that she was shoved several times while arguing with a man, which injured her leg. Sub- sequently, Freddie Victor Tamayo, 37, was cited on a charge of harassment. *Joseph Calvin Cheek, 17, was cited on a charge of careless driving following a two-vehicle motor vehicle accident with property dam- age reported on Indian Creek Road at 4:41 p.m. *Robert James Myers, 33, was lodged in county jail on five warrants charging FTA on charges including assault, menacing, unauthor- ized use of a motor vehicle Page 7 (UUV) and DUII. He also was charged with second- degree criminal trespass stemming from his refusal to leave a CJ store parking lot when asked. *A Caves Hwy. resident reported stolen cash, jewelry and two credit cards. A re- cent houseguest was sus- pected. Monday, Feb. 19 *Logs unavailable. Tuesday, Feb. 20 *Movement by a bal- loon caused an alarm to sound at Budget Express Pharmacy at 12:49 a.m. *Jonathan Anderson, 15, was cited on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, less than an ounce of marijuana, after I.V. High School officials phoned authorities. *Some guy was going door-to-door on Kerby Ave- nue selling items to earn points for a trip, but his story didn’t check out, a caller said. *A short time after she’d received a call telling her that she’d left her eye- glasses at an optometrist’s office, a pickup truck ar- rived at her house, and gave her a ride. When returning home, she left her wallet in the truck. Unfortunately, she did not know who was driv- ing the vehicle, or why they appeared at her house. *Eric Griffie, 36, was cited in Downtown Cave Junction on a DWS charge. *Steps were being taken Bail was set at $1 mil- lion for a Jacksonville man charged in connection with firing a handgun at a city of Jacksonville police officer after a traffic stop, said Ore- gon State Police. The suspect is identified as Anthony R. Fogelman, 36. He is charged with at- tempted aggravated murder, first-degree assault, driving under the influence of an intoxicant (drugs), three counts of resisting arrest, and second-degree criminal to prevent an E. River Street resident from illegally gain- ing access to electric power through a damaged service box, and to evict the resi- dent, according to the prop- erty owner. Wednesday, Feb. 21 *Houseguests who were reported at 3:14 a.m. to have overstayed their welcome were escorted from a Laurel Road residence. *Manuel Joseph Cere- cedes, 23, was arrested on a peace officer’s mental hold and transported to Three Rivers Community Hospital after he reportedly threat- ened to rip out his wife’s boyfriend’s heart and kill them both. *Tristan Gale, 13, was cited on a charge of harass- ment after allegedly pushing an adult aide at Lorna Byrne Middle School. *His vehicle was stolen while he was in jail, said a rural Cave Junction man. *On Schumacher Street around 9 p.m., a woman said that her daughter’s ex- boyfriend was knocking on windows, harassing them. Thursday, Feb. 22 *Fallen trees and dam- aged utility lines were re- ported throughout the valley this morning due to heavy, wet snow. *A snowball fight be- tween two 10-year-olds was said to have gotten out of hand, as yelling and threats ensued. The parents of both parties were contacted. mischief, said OSP. Involved was Sgt. Dan Moore, 52, a 12-year vet- eran. The incident occurred Tuesday night, Feb. 20 after Moore stopped the suspect for traffic violations. OSP added that Fogel- man left his vehicle and be- gan yelling at the officer, who fired his Taser with no apparent effect. The suspect then reached into his car and came back out while firing at least one round, OSP said. He then drove away. Other officers, including Jackson County SWAT, converged at his house, but he surrendered before de- ployment. Moore was placed on paid administrative leave, which is department policy in officer-involved shooting incidents. Bomb threat suspect arrested A city of Grants Pass woman, an employee of Wal-Mart, was cited by city police in connection with a bomb threat that caused evacuation of the store on Terry Lane. Amber Lenore Moss, 22, was cited on charges of first- degree disorderly conduct, and initiating a false report, said Grants Pass Dept. of Public Safety. The incident was reported on Saturday, Feb. 17. Officers from several agencies responded. On Friday, Feb. 23 Moss was arrested.
