Police pursue stolen car 12 miles; three arrested
Three persons were ar-
rested and one is being
sought after police chased a
vehicle for some 12 miles
from Downtown Grants
Pass, and the driver of an-
other vehicle tried to inter-
fere during the pursuit.
Grants Pass Dept. of
Public Safety (GPDPS)
added that the incident be-
gan at 8:25 a.m. Sunday,
Feb. 4 when an officer at-
tempted to stop a car on J
Street near Fourth Street.
The driver failed to
yield and led officers on a
pursuit that went through
Merlin and ended at 1930
Jump Off Joe Creek Road. It
later was determined that the
vehicle had been reported
stolen, said GPDPS.
Arrested at the scene
were city of Grants Pass
residents Jason N. Luttrell,
27; and Seth J. Schafer, 30.
Luttrell was jailed under a
warrant; Schafer was jailed
under a warrant and on a
charge of possession of a
controlled substance/
methamphetamine.
The suspected driver of
the car, identified as Mi-
chael J. Austin, 38, of rural
Grants Pass, fled on foot.
Charges of felony and mis-
demeanor eluding, and reck-
less driving, were to be re-
ferred to the Josephine
County district attorney.
Later, Melissa Cline,
31, of the city of GP, was
jailed. She was charged with
two counts each of hinder-
ing prosecution, reckless
driving, and resisting arrest;
plus failing to yield to an
emergency vehicle, failure
to obey a traffic control de-
vice, and failure to drive
within a lane.
She was identified as
the driver of a vehicle that
tried to interfere during the
pursuit.
Another person was in
the car being pursued, but
was not charged. He is iden-
tified as GP resident
Jameson B. Vischer, 21.
