Deuel A funeral service for Cave Junction resident Arthur Calvin Deuel, 77, who died Oct. 16, 2006 at Rogue Val- ley Medical Center in Med- ford, was held Monday, Oct. 23 at Perl Funeral Home in Medford. Interment followed at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Mr. Deuel was born on Nov. 11, 1928, and raised in Payson, Utah. He was the oldest son of eight children. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. While serv- ing in Southern California, he married Dorothy McLemore and had three children. They lived in California before moving to Merlin in Jose- phine County in 1970. He married Helen Kees in 1974 and moved to Med- ford, living there until relo- cating to Cave Junction in 2002. The couple had a carpet and upholstery business. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many Boy Scout adult leadership positions, and he loved to fish, golf, square dance and travel. He is survived by wife, Helen, of Cave Junction; a son, Sterling, of Portland; a daughter, Janice Campbell, of Las Vegas, Nev.; step- children Teddie Milligan, of Seattle, Kathy Kees, of Tuc- son, Ariz., and Eric Kees, of Medford; eight grandchil- dren; and two great- grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two sons, Alan Kees and Marty Kees; and two sisters. Hildreth E. Mayfield Viewing and a celebra- tion of life were held Mon- day, Oct. 30 for Cave Junc- tion resident Hildreth Ellen Mayfield, 88, who died at home Oct. 27, 2006. Pastor Dave Gordon of Community Bible Church in Cave Junction officiated at the memorial, held at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors Chapel in Grants Pass. Mrs. Mayfield was born on May 15, 1918 in Halfway, Ore. to Thomas and Arlene Clark. They moved to Grants Pass in 1922. She married Dean Mayfield, who died in 1991, on Aug. 30, 1936. She was the mother of five children. She was a Sun- day school teacher, avid gar- dener and food canner, and skillful seamstress. Mrs. Mayfield played piano by ear; and she was a partner in life with her husband, building their home, farming and rais- ing cattle. They had a Grants Pass “Daily Courier” delivery route for more than 13 years. She was a member of Community Bible Church in Cave Junction, and known as a compassionate friend to many. Surviving are her three daughters, Loretta Lockhart, of McKinleyville, Calif., Marilyn Hart, of Jerome, Idaho, and Carol Clark- Mayfield, of Cave Junction; two sisters, Josephine Hakala, of Rogue River, and Janice Brown, of Bend; 10 grand- children; and 18 great- grandchildren. Two sons, Kenton and Don, preceded her in death. Mr. Arrendondo was born on April 28, 1925 in Denver to Antonio & Antonia Arrendodo. He moved to Cave Junction in 1987, and had lived in Grants Pass for the past 18 months. He was a member of Illinois River Valley Art As- sociation, the Jerry Acklen Diabetes Association, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed painting, collect- ing coins and rifles, and spending time with family. Surviving are his sister, Andrea Connor, of Cave Junction; and many nieces and nephews. The topic for the morning worship service was, “So My Spouse Isn’t Weird after All.” In the afternoon the men went with Jim, and the women stayed in the sanctuary with Carolyn to discuss “Resolving Issues With Understanding.” The informative literature was appreciated by everyone. Pastor Verne Hyland had an Affirmation Ceremony at the close of the meeting and ended with a dedication prayer. The Health and Cooking class on Monday evening, Oct. 23 was well-attended. Henry and Robin Martin were special guests and pre- senters for the class. Henry Martiin spoke about the effects of stress on the body and gve interesting material on diabetes reversal. He and his wife have been part of a medical team that held diabetes reversal programs in many different countries in the world as well as here in the USA. Henry Martin was vice president of Weimar Health Institute in California. The couple now live in Grants Pass. Robin demonstrated some of her favorite Holiday Vegen Recipes. There was plenty of food for everyone at the special Holiday Faire Banquet.
