SPECIAL CERTIFICATES HONORING Illinois Valley
Fire District (IVFD) staff and volunteers were presented
by Chief Harry Rich Thursday night, Aug. 10 during a
district board meeting. Those recognized devoted hun-
dreds of hours during the 2005 Deer Creek Conflagra-
tion that began Aug. 25 and was contained Aug. 28,
burning across 1,600 acres of Selma and destroying 12
structures including five homes. Many I.V. firefighters,
said Rich, were on duty for six consecutive days with
little or no rest. Directors (at right) and Rich (kneeling
at front left) shook hands all around. Recognized with
heartfelt thanks were (not in order) Firefighter Phil
Aria, Firefighter Jeff Bradshaw, Firefighter Mary Jane

In a recent poll con-
ducted by the National
Stroke Association, a third
of men could not recognize
even one stroke symptom.
This is not good news
for men, or the women in
