Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, July 19, 2006 Page 4 Vital papers can be lost in disasters The effect of disasters like last year’s Gulf Coast hurricanes is often long- term. As victims try to put their lives back in order, they face the challenge of locating important docu- ments that might have been lost or destroyed. It often takes a disaster to remind people of the im- portance of having copies of vital documents safely stored somewhere other than their homes. A recent study by The UPS Store and Mail Boxes Etc. disclosed that 58 per- cent of those surveyed said that natural disasters have made them more aware of this need. UPS Store fran- chisee Steve Spicer recom- mends that important docu- ments to have available in case of a disaster. Address: 850 N.W. 6th St. Grants Pass Tony’s Barber Shop - Rose Kennedy - Seventh-day Adventist Church, Cave Junction The congregation was treated to a visit from retired pastor Floyd Bresee. His ser- mon was simply titled, “Change Me.” Elder Bresee referred to Matthew, Chapter 22. Jesus told a parable of a wedding hall with guests dressed in fine clothes. One man was not properly dressed and was ex- iled from the gathering. Verse 14 reads, “Many are invited, but few are chosen.” As Christians, we strive to be chosen. We fail in our Chris- tian walk by asking the Lord to change our circumstances, rather than calling upon Him to change us. Vacation Bible School will be at the church from July 31 to Aug. 11. Aside from diet, the most effective way to a healthy heart is through exercise. Exercise builds qi and blood, strengthening digestion -- a key to longevity! Any activity that suits your lifestyle may easily become routine. Proper exercise should feel like a stretch, not pain. Walking, biking, swimming and golf are all good choices. If you need help getting started, make an appointment for an exam and mo- bility screening. Those with heart irregularities and high blood pressure must be mindful of the heat. Be careful not to overexert. Exercise creates pain-killing endorphins and increases serotonin in the brain, preventing depression. Strengthening the heart improves lung function, building immunity.
