(Photos by ‘Illinois Valley News’) To the Root How does Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) help to prevent summer injuries? Repetitive Motion Injuries (RMI’s) are commonly seen in clinic. Wood-chopping, pruning, weeding, fence-mending, computer work and lifting may cause injuries requiring prompt attention. Acute pain is treated with acupuncture. The offending activity must be stopped during treatment. Summer injuries may be prevented with simple warm-up exercises. Stretching and rotating neck, arm and hands, torso, hips, knees and ankles are a good start! Warm-up and stop before you overdo! Don’t fall victim to the “Five Overdoings”- overwork, overeating/drinking, overthinking/worry, too much sex, too much sleep. The Chinese recommend a calm routine and balance.
