Kristy home
Kristy Lee, the former
Illinois Valley High School
softball player, and Country
singer, is back in the valley
for a few months of R&R.
She will, however, per-
form at the All Sports Park in
Grants Pass at the
American Legion Stadium
for a concert followed with
fireworks on July 4.
Her recent activities have
included a concert and spend-
ing a day with Brittney
Spears (walking the red car-
pet with her at the music
awards). She has sung the
National Anthem at the
NASCAR Winston 500, and
at professional baseball,
football, and basketball
games in Texas and Colo-
rado, and with Kix Brooks.
She headlines at Cow-
boys in San Antonio, Texas,
and has had a record
release that was number one
on the Country swing charts.
She is currently enjoying
her home in Selma and pre-
paring to meet with Jaguar
Productions on a possible
movie with Halle Berry and
Val Kilmer. That has not
been set in concrete yet, but
she has received a letter of-
fering her a major role if and
when the movie is approved,
said her agent.

Nicholas Leach Earns UofO Degree
Nicholas Leach, son of Cave Junction residents Terry &
Marilyn Leach, has received his bachelor of arts degree in
anthropology, with a minor in
biology from University of Ore-
gon at Eugene.
Leach went through com-
mencement exercises June 17.
During this summer he plans
to walk the Pacific Coast Trail.
He then will attend graduate
school at University of Califor-
nia at Santa Cruz.
Leach went through Ever-
green Elementary and Lorna
Byrne Middle schools. He
graduated from Illinois Valley
NICHOLAS LEACH
High School.

To the Root
Welcome to Illinois River Acupuncture’s new
column “To the Root” where traditional Chinese
Medicine will take us into the 21st century .
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) physicians have always talked about health as a
tree. The branches are symptoms. “Always treat the root,” is our training. We treat the
individual based on his/her pattern of symptoms, which determine the TCM diagnosis.
Water metabolism, digestion and elimination, stress, lifestyle and constitution are all
considered when taking a medical history. The patient’s chosen formula, based on
pattern-diagnosis, serves to prevent their particular disease progression.
For instance, if the patient is prone to episodes of memory loss and having little
transient ischemic attacks, Traditional Chinese Medicine has a history of 5,000 years
of reversing the process! Acupuncture will drop blood pressure on the spot. It can
also stop stroke activity in process. Remember, high blood pressure is a symptom.
We must “treat the root.”
