‘JEFFERSON’ PLAYED BLUEGRASS music and attracted
an audience of more than 100 to the inaugural perform-
ance in the free Concerts in the Park series in Jubilee
Park sponsored by Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce.

128 mph speeder halted
A Klamath Falls man
was stopped and cited Thurs-
day afternoon, June 15 on a
charge of exceeding the speed
limit and driving more than
100 mph (128 mph in a 55
mph zone), said Oregon State
Police (OSP).
Driving a 2003 Honda,
the motorcyclist was identi-
fied as Rion L. Dillon, 27. He
was on Hwy. 97 north of the
Algoma Bridge construction
zone.
Effective Jan. 1, a new
Oregon law (Senate Bill 568)
stiffened penalties for drivers
cited at speeds 100 mph and
faster. A conviction carries a
mandatory minimum 30-90
day license suspension and a
$1,103 fine.
Excessive speed is a fac-
tor in half of all traffic fatali-
ties, and it is the only factor in
approximately 30 percent of
these crashes, said OSP.
During 2005, data pro-
vided by OSP Patrol Services
Division indicates that troop-
ers cited 464 people for driv-
ing 100 mph or faster. Be-
tween 2000 and 2004, troop-
ers cited more than 2,600
drivers for going 100 mph or
faster.
Of the citations issued to
drivers in excess of 100 mph
on a secondary state highway,
more than a quarter (21) oc-
curred on Hwy. 97. Of those
issued on 97, half were issued
north of Klamath Falls to the
Hwy. 58 junction, OSP noted.
As of June 1, the Oregon
Dept. of Environmental Qual-
ity (DEQ) is providing an
opportunity for the public to
comment on environmental
plans and permit applications
for new construction projects
that disturb 5 acres or more.
The new public review
process is part of changes
OK’d in December by the
Oregon Environmental Qual-
ity Commission for the 1200-
C National Pollutant Dis-
charge Elimination System
general permit.
The 1200-C permit regu-
lates stormwater runoff to
surface waters from construc-
tion activities and is required
only for those projects of 5
acres or more, said water
quality officials from DEQ. It
administers the permits with
designated agents such as
municipalities and special
service districts.
For more information on
the revised 1200-C permit,
the public review process and
requirements for permittees,
visit www.deq.state.or.us/

stormwaterhome.htm, scroll-
ing down to the section on
“Construction Activities.”
Fact sheets, permit applica-
tion forms and permit guid-
ance documents are available
from this site.

Wireless security = props
How to install a wireless security system:
Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men’s used
work boots, a really big pair. Put them at your front door on top
of a couple copies of “Guns and Ammo” magazine.
Put a dog dish -- a really big dish -- beside the boots and
magazines.
Leave a note on your front door. It should read something
like:
“Bubba, Crazy Larry, Big Mike and I have gone to get more
ammunition and liquor. We’ll be back in half an hour. Don’t
disturb the pit bulls. They’ve just been dewormed and they are a
little edgy.”

Vehicle fires can be prevented
Car fires account for 13
percent of all civilian fire
deaths, according to the Na-
tional Fire Protection Asso-
ciation.
More than two-thirds of
vehicle fires result from me-
chanical or electrical failures
or malfunctions. To reduce
the risk of vehicle fire, AAA
is urging drivers to get a com-
prehensive vehicle mainte-
nance inspection if they have
not had one during the past
year.
If you don’t feel close to
God, ask who moved.
