Ellsworth V. ‘EV’ Cooke
Ellsworth V. “EV” Cooke,
94, of Grants Pass, died
Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at
an assisted-living facility in
Grants Pass.
A graveside service will
be held at 11 a.m. Saturday,
June 24 at Laurel Cemetery in
Cave Junction.
Mr. Cooke was born on
April 8, 1912 in Entiat, Wash.
He was raised on a ranch out-
side Entiat. He spent the war
years mining copper in Butte,
Mont. In 1944 he moved to
Illinois Valley, where he
worked in the logging industry.
He moved to Grants Pass in the
1970s and was instrumental in
promoting garlic production in
Oregon.
“EV” was active in the
Fraternal Order of Eagles, Ma-
sonic Lodge and White Shrine.

Cliff Lowden Murray Sr., 82, died of complications of con-
gestive heart failure. He left this Earth on June 11, 2006 at ap-
proximately 6 a.m. and is now in the arms of Jesus.
God was the focus of his existence. He was a minister of the
Gospel for a good portion of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy
from 1941 to 1945 aboard the USS “Portland” during WWII and
was a strong supporter of patriotism and freedom for this coun-
try.
He was an accomplished
woodworker and loved working
with just about anything me-
chanical. Surviving him is Cleo
June Murray, his wife of 63
years. She was a loving and de-
voted wife and states that the
essence of their relationship is
that written in Proverbs 5:18,
“He was the husband of her
youth.”
He also leaves behind three
sons. Cliff Murray Jr., who had
been a missionary in Singapore
in the early 1960s where he met his wife, Georgina and has been
in the ministry for many years and presently pastors the Four-
square church in Ridgecrest, Calif.
Cliff Jr. has four beautiful grown children and 15 great
grandchildren.
Michael Murray is his middle son, who followed in his fa-
ther’s military footsteps and was in the U.S. Navy as a Corps-
man with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965 to 1969.
John Murray is the youngest son and devoted his life to his
parents’ welfare and was always there when help was needed.
Cliff Murray Sr.’s brother and sister-in-law are Dr. Fred and
Margie Seaward, who have been missionaries in Malaysia for 51
years. Also grieving the loss are his best friends since childhood,
Jack and Martha Burgan of Grants Pass.
In lieu of contributions or flowers his wish would be that
all would love their neighbor as themselves.

Time will resume June 25, as
the 12th Sunday will take us
into Mark’s Gospel about a
stormy situation.
Jesus was in a boat with
his disciples, when a violent
squall came up and waves
broke over the boat. The disci-
ples said, “Teacher, do you not
care that we are perishing?”
Jesus rebuked the wind and it
ceased.
Then Jesus asked, “Why
are you terrified? Do you not
yet have faith?”
