Charges can be amended or dismissed.) * * * Sunday, May 14 *Near the 17-mile marker of Redwood Hwy. a driver was warned about offensive litter- ing at 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 15 *Joshua Lee Burns, 23, was lodged in Josephine County jail on warrants charging failure to appear (FTA) on original charges of first- and third-degree theft. He also was cited on a charge of providing false information to police. *An officer gave brief chase to a dirt bike rider in the 6000 block of Rockydale Road before losing the sub- ject on a BLM road. *On E. River Street a mother complained that her 12-year-old son wasn’t listen- ing to her and was “terrorizing” his younger brother. The two were coun- seled regarding parenting. *The driver of a white Suburban-type vehicle was said to be swerving all over Red- wood Hwy. southbound near Lakeshore Drive, and honking at people who tried to pass. *It appeared that some- one was camping in a vehicle on the Sterling Savings Bank parking lot. A deputy was to check through the evening. *At 5:45 p.m. a woman claimed to have been as- saulted at “Forks” Park by two women and three men who also, she said, slashed her tires and attempted to burn her vehicle. *In the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. a 61-year-old woman said that her care- giver pushed her to the ground, causing breathing difficulties. She also received a threatening message on her answering machine, she said. *After walking her prop- erty with people who offered to do tree work, a Honeybee Lane resident noticed that her purse was missing. Tuesday, May 16 *Some 20 gallons of fuel were reported stolen from a bus parked at Illinois Valley Head Start on E. River Street. *After attempting to shoplift a bottle of organic juice from Shop Smart Food Warehouse, Raymond Paul Hicks, 27, was cited to appear on a charge of third-degree theft. *A three-week supply of medication was reported sto- len from a home in the 24000 block of Redwood Hwy. *From the 3000 block of Holland Loop, it was reported that a 17-year-old had taken his grandfather’s car and three guns valued at $1,000 without permission. *Transients drinking in the 100 block of Hussey Ave- nue made themselves unwel- come around 4 p.m., and were told to move along. Redwood Hwy., “speaking to the world.” He left when asked. *Wearing cut-off shorts, an intoxicated man was said to be sleeping on S. Lake- shore Drive around 5:30 p.m. The man was gone when a deputy arrived to check. *At 9:43 p.m. a “Stop” sign was found knocked down on E. River Street. Wednesday, May 17 *While investigating a report of youths fighting at Jubilee Park just after mid- night, a deputy seized a bolt- action .22 rifle and a license plate from an unlocked car in the vicinity. *In the 700 block of N. Old Stage Road several items including a watch, digital video camera, CDs and mis- cellaneous tools were re- ported taken from an unlocked vehicle overnight. *In an attempt to steal a vehicle from the 200 block of S. Redwood Hwy., a culprit smashed a door window and caused extensive damage to the steering column. *A soon-to-be ex-tenant was said to be harassing other residents on Ollis Road, and the complainant was advised of options. *Two miniature horses valued at $2,500 were re- ported missing from a loca- tion on White Schoolhouse Road, from which another horse had been seized earlier by animal control officers. *Some 30 CDs and a garage door opener were dis- covered in Jubilee Park, and turned in at the Illinois Valley Substation at 8 a.m. *Leland E Howard, 36, was cited on charges of driving with a suspended license (DWS), and driving uninsured in Downtown CJ at 12:18 p.m. *Contacted behind Caves Minimall, a sleeping man was awakened and told to move on. *A man on N. Old Stage Road said that his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend has continued to make unwanted contact. The person was warned via voice- mail about their behavior. *On S. Kerby Avenue, a driver was warned for failure to provide proof of insurance and also for inoperative turn signals. *An intoxicated man with a dog in a box was har- assing people near CJ 76 gas station at 7:30 p.m. *Following a fender- bender between two vehicles at a boat ramp at Lake Sel- mac, one driver reportedly tried to pay the other $50 and then leave. The parties soon exchanged information on their own. *Banging on the drive- through window at Dairy Queen with a flashlight was a red-haired man with a dog who seemed angry that the business was closed at 10 p.m. and was yelling at and harassing employees. *The same “foul- mouthed” man had returned to CJ 76 at 10 p.m. Thursday, May 18 *Reporting at the I.V. Substation, a woman claimed to have been assaulted three times in the past three weeks, twice at Jubilee Park, and once at “Forks” Park. *On Arrowhead Drive, a man said that a credit card had been removed from his residence and that within a matter of hours some $1,500 in charges were reported. *Ten windows and two sliding-glass doors were bro- ken at the McCaleb Ranch caretaker’s house, a represen- tative of the Boy Scout coun- cil reported. *Driving a vehicle with admittedly switched license plates, Glen Earl Reese, 41, was cited to appear on a mis- demeanor charge of DWS. The vehicle was impounded. *A caller said that she had left a bag containing pre- scription medications at a public phone near O’Brien Store & Deli, but that it was gone when she returned. *In Selma, a suspected methamphetamine lab in a storage unit was reported to Josephine Interagency Nar- cotics Team (JOINT). *Registration tags were reported stolen from a vehicle on Shadowbrook Drive. Friday, 19 May *On Deer Creek Road a woman said that her intoxi- cated neighbor screamed and yelled at her, and that she defended herself with a dog leash. *Jewelry and a camera were reported taken from a residence in the 17000 block of Illinois River Road, after ransacking thieves entered through a window. *Mail theft was reported in the 5000 block of Caves Hwy. *Vulgar, spray-painted graffiti gracing a wall at Caves Minimall could be removed for an estimated $100, a complainant said. *Sara Couick, 20, was cited on a charge of DWS in the 18000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 11:47 a.m. *At Four Aces Mini Stor- age on Hogue Drive, Candice E. Stauffer, 28, was arrested on a warrant charging unlawful possession of methampheta- mine. She was lodged in Jose- phine County Jail. *Having torn down two fences, a tusked pig named ‘Wilbur’ then frightened a horse and attacked some dogs, a Kerby woman re- ported at 6:30 p.m. Animal Control was notified. *Following a single- vehicle motor vehicle acci- dent in the 25000 block of Redwood Hwy., Robert Wal- ter Couick, 52, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUII) and failure to carry insurance, and failure to per- form a breathalyzer test. *Animal Control was notified of a spotty, pitbull mixed-breed dog which, al- lowed to run loose daily, chases cats and knocks over trash cans . Saturday, May 20 *Three men on dirt bikes who were racing up and down Forest Creek Road at “approximately 60 mph,” were said to have “flipped off” a man who tried to get them to stop. *Thieves cut locks and chain-link fencing, and also demolished a door to access a shop building on Rockydale Road from which they stole some $100 worth of copper wire. *After he sprayed a 14- year-old in the face with mace, the 40- to 50-year-old driver of a black Jeep was said to have taken a paintball gun from the kid and left in an unknown direction of travel on Rockydale Road. *A red Toyota pickup truck was reported stolen from Western Plaza at 4:42 p.m. *Alarms sounded at vari- ous locations in Cave Junc- tion, perhaps as a result of a power outage. *At Lake Selmac Resort, a man was said to have taken a money box and thrown it into the lake. The park host gave chase for a time, but the suspect eluded capture even though deputies arrived. *On Forest Creek Road a man said that his son-in-law had phoned several times to threaten to beat someone with a baseball bat. *Dennis James Hofer, 49, was cited to appear on charges of DWS and DUII after a traffic stop near Ore- gon Caves Chevron.
