Tuesday, April 18 *In Cave Junction a woman was warned for VBR (violation of the basic rule/driving too fast for con- ditions) at 10:12 a.m. *Russell R. Ballard, 53, was arrested at the Illinois Valley Substation in Down- town Cave Junction under a misdemeanor warrant charg- ing failure to appear (FTA) on a charge of driving while suspended (DWS). *A woman identified as Sheila M. Drouin, 78, was declared deceased in Selma after a medical call. *For some reason, two men were contacted at 12:50 p.m. in the 1500 block of Lakeshore Drive. *Neilia Beth Pierson, 52, was arrested in the 800 block of Caves Hwy. and jailed under a warrant charg- ing FTA on charges of third- degree robbery, menacing, and third-degree theft. In serving the warrant, deputies forcibly entered the dwell- ing and used a taser on her. *For some reason, a man said that he had just seen a yellow VW heading toward Grants Pass from Selma. *Animal Control was to be notified of a reported problem in the 1400 block of Reeves Creek Road in- volving a dog that barks all day. *Property damage, but apparently no physical inju- ries, were noted by a resi- dent of Norman Road, who said at 9:31 p.m. that a car was in front of his house and all the car doors were open. *Gunshots and a vehicle with its lights on were re- ported in the 24000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 9:47 p.m. *At a Cave Junction business at 10:09 p.m. a man with a gun was re- ported to be pointing it at another man, then driving away. Two other men were fighting. Everyone was gone when a deputy arrived some six minutes later. Wednesday, April 19 *At 27 past midnight, a deputy checked what ap- peared to be a burglary at the south end of Cave Junc- tion, but which turned out to be two guys with a warming fire. *At 12:33 a.m., a dep- uty checked a woman in the Cave Junction Post Office, as she was suspected of DWS. *What was reported as sounding physical with lots of yelling was reported on Ollis Road at 4:47 a.m. No crime was determined, and the couple involved said that a neighbor phoned in the complaint to get them in trouble. *Josephine County Pub- lic Works was to be notified of a “Stop” sign down at Caves Hwy. and Holland Loop. *In rural Grants Pass a woman said that approxi- mately four large brown spots had appeared on her lawn. She suspected a neighbor or an ex-gardener. *Second-degree bur- glary was reported at Rose of Sharon in Western Plaza by someone who apparently entered with a key. A sus- pect is in mind. *There was a complaint from rural GP that someone in an ultralight aircraft was flying over people’s prop- erty for 15 minutes, coming “within inches of their ground and scaring their horses.” *At least 16 tires were reported slashed on vehicles on Ollis Road, stemming from an earlier disturbance, according to a complainant. *A heavy-set man was getting violent around 1:15 p.m. because he was upset about his food at a Cave Junction restaurant. He in- terfered with a 911 call and left before a deputy could arrive. *People were reported screaming as if they were getting hurt, and a man was yelling threats in the 1500 block of Lone Mt. Road at 5:45 p.m. It turned out to be a situation involving a car being towed. *Five people were con- tacted in Jubilee Park at 6:57 p.m. One man underwent a field interrogation (FI). *Near milepost 27 of Redwood Hwy. a woman was warned about not hav- ing a front license plate. *There was a reported noninjury motor vehicle accident in the 2000 block of Thompson Creek Road at 8:59 p.m. It appeared that two vehicles were involved, but one wasn’t there. Thursday, April 20 *O’Brien Store & Deli was the recipient of Com- munity Oriented Policing (COP) at 12:51 a.m. *The Lake Selmac area was checked near 2 a.m. *Assault was reported at 3:08 a.m. on W. Lister Street by a woman who said that her drunken boyfriend threw her down. It appeared to be more a case of harass- ment than assault, and the woman was going to seek a civil resolution. *A COP visit occurred at Illinois River “Forks” State Park at 4:10 a.m. *In Cave Junction, two motorists were warned for something. *In the 1600 block of Happy Camp Road a man said that his garage had been ransacked and that he was concerned that his well had been compromised. *After refusing to leave a CJ business at 9:14 a.m., the owner wanted him “trespassed.” The man, said to be balding and with a beard, also was reported do- ing pushups in the middle of Redwood Hwy. *In the middle of Downtown CJ at 10 a.m. a driver was warned for mak- ing an improper U-turn. *Theft of jewelry val- ued at $5,000 plus a bank checkbook were reported stolen from a residence on Chapman Creek Road. *A man in the 19000 block of Redwood Hwy. said that a neighbor pointed a shotgun at him and that it had never happened before. *Following a report of assault at I.V. High School, a juvenile boy on probation was charged with fourth- degree assault. *In the 8000 block of Illinois River Road a man was warned for littering and having a dog off-leash. *Hit-and-run was re- ported by a woman on a CJ parking lot. She said the damage amounted to $2,000. *People in the 19000 block were having a verbal confrontation about utilities. One said that his wife was threatened by the other man with a baseball bat. *On White School- house Road there was a complaint of harassment. *Two men with a camp underwent FI’s on Rough and Ready Creek in the vi- cinity of Naue Way. *Another complaint of harassment came from the same White Schoolhouse address as earlier. Friday, April 21 *In the 2000 block of Rockydale road at 12:58 a.m. a man and a woman underwent FI’s. *Although a deputy tried to catch a careless driver from the 24000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 2:05 a.m. it seemed that the driver “may have darked out” to avoid capture. *A man identified as Nathan W. Fincher, 63, was declared deceased after a 6:11 a.m. medical call on Waldamar Road. *What was reported as a crash at the base of Hay’s Hill turned out to be a guy with a flat tire. *The current girlfriend of her ex-boyfriend keeps harassing her, said a woman in Cave Junction. The pair was warned about tele- phonic harassment. *Following a 911 hang- up call from the 1900 block of Caves Hwy., a baby-sitter said that a child, 5, had been playing with a telephone. *There was another harassment call from White Schoolhouse Road, plus a complaint that a house had been vandalized. The caller was warned about misuse of the 911 emergency line. Saturday, April 22 *A check was made on Crooks Creek Road at 12:29 a.m. for a vehicle. *People in O’Brien had a disturbance at 8:29 a.m. There were conflicting state- ments; no arrests were made. *There was a request that a dead dog be removed from the fog-line at Red- wood and Caves highways. *Vehicular hit-and-run was reported on a CJ bar parking lot. *There was a silent alarm at 3:21 p.m. at I.V. Family Resource Center, but no problem was located. *Hit-and-run with prop- erty damage was reported in Kerby at 2:04 p.m. *Two men underwent FI’s in the 3000 block of Eight Dollar Road. *People were contacted near the Eight Dollar Road green bridge. *Some 3.5 miles out Eight Dollar Road, a vehicle was checked at 7 p.m. *Two people were con- tacted out Eight Dollar Road after a report of gunfire. *There was yet another call from White School- house Road. *In Jubilee Park, a man said, people were dealing drugs and smoking crack. Sunday, April 23 *A California motorist was cited at 12:21 a.m. on a charge of driving 84 mph in Page 19 a 50 mph zone in the Red- wood Hwy. Safety Corridor at Grants Pass; 25 minutes later, another motorist in the same area was cited on a charge of driving 75 mph. *Numerous other rural Grants Pass area incidents were logged for this day, but apparently nothing of a criminal nature happened in Illinois Valley. GP stabbing suspect sought Grants Pass Police are looking for a suspect in connection with a stabbing incident Sunday, April 30 at 7:15 p.m. at 1853 Me- dart Lane. Resident Joshua Fran- cis Pitts, 22, suffered a three-inch cut to the palm of his right hand, said Grants Pass Dept. of Pub- lic Safety (GPDPS). The agency said that Pitts had been involved in an argument with Eric Runnels, 32, who is the suspect. The argument esca- lated into a fight, and Run- nels brought out a folding knife and slashed at Pitts, causing the laceration, said GPDPS. The suspect fled be- fore police arrived. There is probable cause for the arrest of Run- nels. Information can be phoned to 474-6370, said GPDPS detectives.
