Charges can be amended or dismissed.) * * * Wednesday, Feb. 8 *Miniature horses pas- tured near Smith-Sawyer Road appeared, under foggy conditions, to be loose on the roadside at 7 a.m., but they were secure, according to the owner. *At quarter to 9 a.m. a man phoned to say he’d hit a miniature horse that morn- ing on Smith-Sawyer Road. *A “Stop” sign was down on Thompson Creek Road at Forest Creek, and public works was advised. *Contacted in Down- town CJ, Michael J. Hood, 20, was lodged in Josephine County Jail on a warrant charging failure to appear (FTA) on original charges of first-degree burglary, un- authorized use of a vehicle (UUV), possession of a con- trolled substance (PCS), and second-degree theft. *Both parties were warned about telephonic harassment concerning a property line dispute and trees in Sucker Creek. *Suspicious checks had been deposited into an ac- count at Evergreen Federal Bank, a manager said, and a report of forgery was filed. Thursday, Feb. 9 *Someone threw a large rock at the CJ 76 gas station glass door around 2 a.m., which triggered an alarm, but caused no damage, said the person who responded to the store. *No problems were found after an alarm at Wild River Brewing & Pizza Co. at 8 a.m. *It was requested that a deputy check after the wel- fare of a woman living in the 23000 block of Red- wood Hwy., but he was told she’d been evicted. *On Caves Hwy. it was reported that someone smashed a tail-light on a car. *An anonymous caller reported smelling metham- phetamine cooking at a Nor- man Road residence. How- ever a deputy was unable to locate the odor source. *A 17-year-old was warned about trespassing at Illinois Valley High School. *Anthony F. Hindle, 18, was cited on a charge of vio- lation of the basic rule (VBR: driving too fast for condi- tions) in a school zone on E. River Street at 3:36 p.m. *Warned for failure to carry insurance, Teri Lynn Dean, 38, was cited on charges of VBR, and driv- ing with a suspended license (DWS) on E. Watkins Street at Caves Avenue at 4 p.m. *In the 6000 block of Lakeshore Drive, a man said that someone stole his gate. *A caller on Takilma Road reported the scent of “ether,” which seemed to be drifting from the Rockydale Road area. *Loud music from his neighbor’s shed was disturb- ing his sleep, said a man on Westside Road at 9 p.m. *On Lakeshore Drive a man complained that a neighbor had harassed him and not permitted access to a house he’s building. *In Selma a woman said that her ex-husband had violated a restraining order by contacting her at work. The complaint was deemed unfounded. Friday, Feb. 10 *On N. Old Stage Road a woman said that the owner of the property next door had been sitting in his car all morning, for no apparent reason, and this scared her. *On Takilma Road, a school bus driver reported seeing a man pull a gun on another man and his daugh- ter at the bus stop. All par- ties in the dispute were con- tacted, and one fellow coun- seled on the proper proce- dure for carrying a handgun. *Out with a subject near Evergreen Federal Bank at 11:30 a.m., an OSP trooper requested deputy back-up. *The driver of a “newer,” red Ford pickup truck was reportedly tailgat- ing, and yelling and flipping off another driver on Caves Hwy. at 1:30 p.m. *In the 5000 block of Caves Hwy. a man said that his ex-friend repeatedly shows up after drinking. He has told the person they are unwelcome, and yet they continue to return and he wanted them warned about harassment and trespassing. *While attending an event at Illinois Valley High School, a young man no- ticed people breaking into his pickup truck, and was punched in the stomach when he approached the subjects, his father reported. *Woody John Nelson, 20, was cited on a charge of VBR on N. Redwood Hwy. at 4 p.m. *A man believed to be a sex offender was said to be headed to Medford with a woman and children in his vehicle, and the caller was concerned for their welfare. *On Fir Drive a man said that someone had at- tempted to obtain credit card information from checks mailed to him. *Fallen on a hillside in the 2000 block of Deer Creek Road, a tree was likely to constitute a hazard soon if it continued to slide into the roadway, according to a caller. *A white SUV was said to be speeding toward O’Brien at “around 100 mph,” said a caller in Selma. Saturday, Feb. 11 *Daniel Earl Putnam, 17, was cited on a charge of probation violation and lodged at the Juvenile Jus- tice Center in Grants Pass. *Two intoxicated per- sons were drinking in front of a CJ eatery, to the con- sternation of the restaurant owner and her breakfast patrons, it was reported at 10:30 a.m. *An estimated $2,000 damage occurred when someone, who did not stick around, struck a car parked at Selma Select Market, the owner reported. *A 911 emergency call taker overheard a bizarre cell-phone conversation, wherein a man was said things like: “I am a joker,” “You are Catwoman,” and, “Don’t worry, that happens to the operator all the time and they can’t track you unless the conversation is more than a minute,” to a woman who responded, “You could have warned me.” Within 20 minutes a deputy arrived at the prop- erty on Norman Road from which the call originated and determined that the resi- dents were attempting to figure out how to use a cell phone. *On Indian Creek Road a complaint was made about the riders of unlicensed ATVs whose activities were said to be tearing up the roadway. Sunday, Feb. 12 *Samantha J Wright, 15, was lodged at Grants Pass Juvenile Justice Center on a charge of fourth-degree assault involving her mom. *Someone had been cutting trees on his Thomp- son Creek Road property, a man, said, and tire tracks lead to his neighbor’s place. The neighbors, for their part, said they had let someone else cut on their property, Meidinger Concrete Construction Serving the Valley since 1974 and that person mistakenly cut the trees. The issue was deemed civil in nature. *On Robinson Corner Road a man complained that his neighbor, against whom he has “multiple com- plaints,” pointed a laser beam at him. The neighbor said he was using the laser to point at the spotlight the original complainant was shining at him. The man with the laser was warned that pointing such a device is a class “A” misdemeanor. *Two vehicles were reported speed-racing in the vicinity of Jubilee Park and N. Junction Avenue at 9 p.m. *Around 11:30 a driver reported having hit two horses in the 1000 block of Rockydale Road, killing one of them and severely dam- aging his car. Monday, Feb. 13 *At around 2 a.m. a man was contacted at Illi- nois River “Forks” State Park and warned about the park’s hours. He left. *Several “Stop” signs had been pulled down along E. River Street, and a con- crete bench was discovered in the roadway around 2 a.m. The bench was moved to the side, and public works notified about the signs. *Discovered behind Art’s Red Garter Saloon just after 2 a.m. with six “packaged-for-sale” baggies of methamphetamine and “a large amount of marijuana, possibly two to three grams worth,” Leif T. Devin B. Carrier, 19, was cited on second-degree charges of manufacture, possession, and delivery of a controlled substance (MCS, PCS, and DCS), and lodged in Jose- phine County Jail. *Padraic Nunes Cotta, 19, was cited on a charge of VBR in the 17000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 8 a.m. *On Rockydale Road, a dead horse was lying par- tially on the roadway, a caller reported. The horse’s owner had not been located yet. The county road depart- ment was notified. *She hit her sister’s boyfriend because he was yelling and in her face, said a woman in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 3:16 p.m., but no medical atten- tion was necessary. *Two people in the 27000 block of Redwood Hwy. were warned about initiating false reports. *No reason was stated as to why a woman would use a wrench to smash the windshield of a particular pickup truck at O’Brien Country Store. A man re- ported that she had, and also that she rammed the vehicle as she was driving away just after 5 p.m. *In Selma, a woman’s soon-to-be ex-husband was “being aggressive, and yell- ing” at her, she said. Every- one was advised of their options.
