(Photo provided) Swimmers from IVHS ready for big splash Illinois Valley High School’s swim team is geared up for district com- petition in North Bend on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 9 and 10. The IVHS swimmers final meet before district was at Southern Oregon University in Ashland on Tuesday, Jan. 31 against Phoenix and North Valley. Cougar swimmers have placed in the top six places consistently. This is no small feat; they are a first- year team, and they are swimming against many year-round club swimmers. This swim team has set the bar high for future IVHS swimmers, setting fast paces for school record times. Mayor Tony Paulson has said that it will take $15,000 in donations, plus locating an antiquated valve that needs replacing, to get the pool open for the season. During this time of year when so much water is fal- ling from the sky, it makes it hard to think about what it takes to get this facility go- ing by the end of May or the beginning of June, said Cyn- thia Hobbins, pool manager last year, and coach of the new swim team at Illinois Valley High School.
