Questions and Answers Call or email and come for a visit. by Cheryl Valentine Joyce & Harry Abrams Interim Executive Director 592-6078 Lovejoy Hospice llamuz@forestedgefarm.com In an effort to help you to be better informed about hospice care in our community, Lovejoy Hospice produces an informative question and answer column each month. Look for our column printed on the fourth Wednesday edition of the ‘Illinois Valley News.’ Question: Should family rituals be continued while our loved one is ill? Answer: Over time, peo- ple develop rituals in their lives. These rituals may in- clude a favorite yearly outing, a special way of celebrating holidays or birthdays, family evenings around the dinner table, or a favorite game played weekly. Rituals ground us, give us constancy and roots, and create memo- ries. It is important for some patients and families to con- tinue family and personal rituals as well as possible when facing difficult ad- vanced illness situations. These events, though, may need to be adjusted to meet the wishes or needs of an ill person. Memorial services can be another important ritual. A memorial gathering is an opportunity to honor and to create more good memories by sharing friendship, sup- port, and storytelling. Remember that rituals enrich all of our lives If you have a question about hospice care for the column, please phone (541) 474-1193 or 1(888) 758-8569 or Email me at: christina@lovejoyhospice.org FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF SELMA 18285 Redwood Hwy.
