Rare trumpet solo featured in
Jefferson Baroque program
Joy Messerli

Illinois Valley High
School senior Joy Messerli
is September Student of the
Month sponsored by the
Josephine County Board of
Commissioners.
Messerli is the daughter
of Calvin and Debbie
Messerli. She has main-
tained a 4.0+ grade-point
average.
She has been a member
of the SMILE Club, National
Honor Society, Mathletes
and the flag team.
She has completed her
CIM (Certificate of Initial
Mastery) and she was her
Bible club’s leader during
her junior year.
After graduation
Messerli plans to attend
Western Oregon University
at Monmouth to major in
chemistry.
She would like to spe-
cialize in forensics.
A State of Jefferson premiere with the first period in-
strument performance of Bach’s Second Brandenburg Con-
certo will be performed Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29-30.
The Jefferson Baroque Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m.
at Newman United Methodist Church in Grants Pass; and
Sunday at 3 p.m. at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in
Ashland.
A rare trumpet solo will be played by Gil Cline, of
Humboldt State University at Eureka. Other soloists:
Pat O’Scannell, recorder; Jim Rich, Baroque oboe; and
Margaret Gries, Baroque violin.
Tickets are available at the Book Exchange in Western
Plaza in Cave Junction, or at the door.
New trail, other improvements
unveiled at Lower Table Rock
The Lower Table Rock
trail, parking lot, restrooms
and a new loop trail are now
open to the public, an-
nounced Bureau of Land
Management (BLM).
A new interpretive trail
was constructed, and repairs
were made to the restroom
and parking areas.
The new trail is ap-
proximately a half-mile
long. It winds through chap-
arral/oak savanna vegetation
at the base of Lower Table
Rock Mountain. Interpretive
signs are ordered and will be
installed later, BLM said.
This project is funded
under authority of the Se-
cure Rural Schools and
Community
Self-
Determination Act of 2000.
The Medford District Re-
source Advisory Committee
approved the project in
2004, said BLM.
The Upper and Lower
Table Rock areas are popu-
lar recreation and education
destinations in the Rogue
Valley. During 2005,
BLM’s Medford District
guided more than 4,000
people on the Upper and
Lower Table Rock hiking
trails.
The Table Rocks
guided hike season occurs
every spring, in partnership
with the Nature Conser-
vancy, BLM noted.

Dudley, an Illinois Valley
High School senior, as Oc-
tober Student of the Month.
Dudley has maintained
a 3.7 grade-point average,
and is the daughter of Ron
and Rachael Dudley.
The student is the cur-
rent Senior Class president
and vice president of IVHS
Chapter of National Honor
Society. She is on the vol-
leyball, cross country, bas-
ketball, track and softball
teams.
She has received recog-
nition as Most Valuable
basketball player, and been
named to the Skyline Con-
ference first team in basket-
ball and track. She also was
honored by being named to
the Skyline Conference third
team in basketball.
She is a Scholar Ath-
lete, having earned a mini-
mum grade point average of
3.5 and a varsity letter.
After graduation, Dud-
ley plans to attend college
and play basketball.
