Evergreen Students of the Month with new auditorium stage curtain
There’s a new stage curtain at Evergreen Elementary School thanks to several years of
candy sales by fifth-grade students. The project to replace the old curtain was begun by
Linda Woolfolk, a fifth-grade teacher who retired in 2003. The new drapery made a good
backdrop for Evergreen’s September Students of the Month. (Top photo, front from left)

and Aldon Moore, and fourth-grader Keyanna Augustadt, and (rear from left) fourth-
graders Carina Cromwell and Kylee Dice, and fifth-graders Bruce Arnett and Katy
Jaynes. (Not shown) fifth-grader Kayla Young. The students were selected based on citi-

Janet Bell appointed to lead county’s
Commission for Children and Families
Appointment of Janet
Bell to the directorship posi-
tion of Commission for
Children and Families is
announced by the Josephine
County Board of Commis-
sioners.
Bell will fill the position
vacated by Sara McDonald
in June.
The Commission for
Children and Families man-
ages and plans for the use of
state dollars for Infant and
Toddler Care, Youth Invest-
ment, Family Preservation
and other state directed
strategies.
The commission also
plans and works with the
local commission and other
community partners in plan-
ning and addressing com-
munity needs as they relate
to children and families.
The commission re-
cently was awarded con-
tinuation of Drug Free Com-
munities funding through
the federal Dept. of Justice.
Bell has been working
with the commission in the
position of department spe-
cialist since 1998. She has
an associate of arts degree
from Rogue Community
College, and has extensive
training regarding commis-
sion issues.
Bell has vast knowledge
and experience regarding
CCF funding, program con-
tracts, data collection and
state requirements, said
county Commissioner
Dwight Ellis.
“The citizens of Jose-
phine County are extremely
fortunate that Janet Bell has
accepted the director posi-
tion,” he said. “She is the
natural and unanimous
choice of the board of com-
missioners, having served
seven outstanding years as
office manager, including
four months as interim di-
rector.
“More importantly,
Janet’s heart is clearly into
helping our own local chil-
dren and families and we
can now rest assured the
commission is in good
hands,” he said.
Under the county’s re
organization, the commis-
sion is under the umbrella of
the Community Justice
Dept.
The commission phone
number is 474-5234.

Also, amend Goal 10 –

description for the limited
Development Zone).

All the foregoing
amendments, said Snider,
are included in the county’s
periodic review agreement
with the Oregon Dept. of
Land Conservation and De-
velopment (DLCD) for up-
dating its land-use program.
These matters were covered
in a prior decision by the
country that has been re-
