At Rick’s Copy Express,
the name says it all ...
Rick’s Copy Express --
the newest business in Illi-
nois Valley -- offers a wide
range of services including
large-format copies such as
those for blueprints and
other construction plans.
There also is a selection
of office supplies and poster
board, plus some architec-
tural and drafting items such
as T-squares, scale tem-
plates and protractor sets.
Opening for customers
Monday, Sept. 12 in West-
ern Plaza next to True Value
in Cave Junction, the busi-
ness is open Mondays
through Fridays from 8:30
a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Satur-
days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The telephone number
is 592-4116.
Laminating is available,
and items can be mounted
on foam board. The latter
also is sold for those who
want to do their own mount-
ing or other such work.
Rick Derringer, who
has 15 years experience in
the copy and enlargement
industry, is operating Rick’s
Copy Express with his wife,
Deovon. They’ve been rural
Cave Junction property
owners since 1999.
“We offer very com-
petitive prices,” said Der-
ringer, “plus friendly, help-
ful service” with conven-
ience and speed in mind.
Copies are available for as
low as 5-cents each.
The business offers $2
pick-up and delivery service
for busy customers who
need copies or enlarge-
ments.
Customers can choose
paper in various colors and
weight. Color copies of pho-
tos, enlarged or not, can be
made by Rick’s, which uses
state-of-the-art equipment,
said Derringer.
A coming feature is a
planning room, he added.
The idea is that by working
with architects and contrac-
tors, plans can be available
for public viewing.
In-stock office supplies
include binders, glue sticks,
Crayons, folders, envelopes,
notebooks and high-lighters.
Items not in stock can be
ordered from catalogs. Be-
sides those services and
items already noted, there is
a display of Derringer’s art
work consisting of log-type
candle-holders and coat
racks.
Remember. If you want to get it in the ‘Noose,’
the deadline is Thursdays at 5 p.m.
Blackberry Festival
Changes Suggested
In another matter, the
council was asked several
times by rural Cave Junction
resident John Thiele if it
wants the annual Blackberry
Festival to continue.
“We have no official
stance,” said Councilman
Russell Ehrman.
Thiele was advised by
Mayor Tony Paulson and
council members that the
festival is not a city-
sponsored function. Thiele
said that he would check the
festival organization’s 501-
C nonprofit status and that
he would like to help see the
event continue, especially if
it can be improved.
“New blood is needed,”
said Councilman Margaret
Miller.
‘Street folks’
rule focus
It is now illegal under
the city of Cave Junction
municipal code to “impede
the orderly movement of
vehicle or pedestrian traffic”
on public or private prop-
erty.
The council Monday
night, Sept. 12 by 4-0 vote
adopted Ordinance 473 to
amend a portion of city code
dealing with “offenses
against public peace and
decency.” Councilman Rita
Dyer was absent.
Under the revision,
“standing, setting or lying”
on a public sidewalk or
“placing any object or vehi-
cle on a sidewalk with the
intent to interfere with free
passage” is prohibited.
The intent, it is indi-
cated, is to be able to deal
with persons sleeping on
sidewalks or otherwise caus-
ing problems to businesses.
In another matter, the
council reiterated its finding
that under Oregon Revised
Statutes, being under the
influence of drugs or alcohol
or being homeless is a dis-
ease, and there can be no
law against them.
The reminder arose after
a short presentation by Cave
Junction businessman Bob
Rodriguez about concerns

Thiele said that he plans
