North Coast Writers’ confab
in Crescent City Sept. 9 & 10
The annual North Coast
Redwoods Writers’ Confer-
ence will be held Sept. 9 and
10 in Crescent City in con-
junction with the College of
the Redwoods, Del Norte
Community Education Pro-
gram.
The conference, which
will run from 6 p.m. Friday
to 5 p.m. Saturday, gives
attendees the opportunity to
learn from and network with
publishers, editors, agents,
and published authors of all
kinds (fiction, poetry, and
nonfiction).
The conference will be-
gin with a keynote presenta-
tion by Bruce Holland
Rogers. Besides a schedule
filled with workshops and
roundtable discussions, book

JESSI COULTER, the well-known Country singer,
is coming to Cave Junction and will perform at the Illi-
nois Valley Lions Labor Day Festival. Her performance
is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. at the open
air theater in Jubilee Park.
Coulter, widow of Waylon Jennings, has been in-
formed repeatedly by Waylon’s cousin, I.V. resident
Wayne Whitfield, about the beauty of the valley, and
about the wonderful people who reside here. After a
‘few’ coaxes encouraging her to visit the valley and
attend the Labor Day Festival, she agreed, going one
step further by signing up to do a free performance.
She hopes that her performance will help raise
money for the I.V. Lions Club I.V. High School Scholar-
ship Fund. Prior to her performance on that day, 50/50
tickets will be available. The drawing will be held at
5:45 p.m., and the winner will receive half the collected
amount. The other half will be deposited into the I.V.
Lions Club’s Scholarship Fund.
Autographed copies of Coulter’s most current CD
also will be awarded to the holders of drawn tickets.
She will sing some of her older hits including, “I’m
not Lisa,” “I’m Looking For Blue Eyes,” and “Storms,”
plus several new songs that will be on her soon-to-be
released CD.
Oregon was one of the first states to recognize
Labor Day as an official holiday.
