A number of people were con-
tacted who fit the description.
They were warned about that
sort of conduct.
*At 10 p.m. a woman was
warned about open hours at
Jubilee Park.
*Several drivers were
warned for speeding in Down-
town Cave Junction between
10 and 11 p.m.
*Contacted once again, a
woman from Maine was
warned about park hours, this
time at Illinois River “Forks”
State Park at 11 p.m.
Thursday, July 21
*On Waldo Road a man
said his club-wielding teen-age
son was attempting to smash
the telephone. Then the line
went dead. When contacted,
the boy elected to go to his
mother’s house for the night.
*Some $275 in damage
occurred when someone threw
a rock through a window at the
I.V. Visitor Center; entered and
stole a coin decorated with a
miner figurine, and small gold
nuggets valued at $100.
*In the 25000 block of
Redwood Hwy. a woman com-
plained that contractors work-
ing next door began at 4:30
a.m. and she was unhappy
about. The foreman denied it,
and the woman was told to
videotape the activity to docu-
ment it.
*Seven people were drink-
ing near the I.V. Visitor Center,
the manager said at 1:30 p.m.
When contacted, Calvin John
Ensminger, 43, was arrested on
a warrant charging contempt of
court for nonsupport, and
lodged in county jail.
*Having possibly fol-
lowed the family dogs out the
front gate, a 3 1/2-year-old
Caves Hwy. resident gave his
family a real scare when it was
discovered that he was missing.
He was located and was fine.
Friday, July 22
*A “very big and danger-
ous” tiger or leopard had been
eluding capture for more than
an hour, a concerned, an
anonymous caller claimed
from the 28000 block of Red-
wood Hwy. at 8:30 a.m. Ore-
gon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
was notified.
*Kelly Marie Kennedy,
45, was arrested on a warrant
charging failure to appear
(FTA) on original charges of
DWS, possession of a precur-
sor substance, and manufacture
and delivery of a controlled
substance (MCS, DCS). She
was lodged in county jail.
*A green John Deere trac-
tor on a rusty, red trailer was
stolen from in front of a resi-
dence on N. Kerby Ave. the
owner said.
*Some bright person
threw a rock through a window
in the 100 block of Redwood
Hwy. the building owner com-
plained.
*A few drivers on Illinois
River Road were warned about
failure to use a seatbelt or
“drive right,” around 5 p.m.
*Brent Morrison, 43, was
arrested on a charge of fourth-
degree felony assault in the
27000 block of Redwood Hwy.
at 7:30 p.m.
*While a woman was
trying to report a domestic
violence situation, a man took
the phone from her, said he
would “talk to (the deputy)
when (he) got here,” and dis-
connected. The parties elected
to separate for the evening.
*On Caves Avenue, one
man was hitting another with a
“Pooper Scooper,” and two
women were trying to break it
up, a caller said at 9:15 p.m.
*Although she suspected
her brother did it, a woman on
Laurel Road had no evidence
to prove he was the one who
stole her temporary checks.
Saturday, July 23
*No report logs.
Sunday, July 24
*False 911 calls from pub-
lic telephones in Downtown CJ
at dawn occurred within eight
minutes of each other, but
nothing was amiss.
*A 6- to 8-inch wide rock
smashed the window of Earth
Friendly Kids at 319 S. Red-
wood Hwy. a caller noted.
Further more, a window and
door in the back were partially
pried open.
*While attempting to evict
a tenant on Ollis Drive at 1
p.m., the manager was as-
saulted, and the call taker could
hear him being punched during
the 911 call. Aubrey Taylor,
17, and Adam Michael Abbey,
20, were arrested on charges of
third-degree assault and given a
ride to county jail.
*Two vehicles were re-
ported stolen and two more
unlawfully entered on Rocky-
dale Road.
*Sean Paul Panzica, 38,
was cited for driving uninsured
and lacking adequate fenders.
*Several drivers and their
passengers were warned about
failure to wear seatbelts on
Illinois River Road this after-
noon.
*A house on Laurel Road
was entered and ransacked, as
was a pickup truck, a man said.
*Alfredo Jaramillo, 50,
was cited for exceeding a 14-
day camping limit at Six Mile
Campground at 6:45 p.m.
*When his ex-girlfriend
took their daughter and left in a
vehicle with no license plates, a
man in CJ was concerned.
*Missing for 45 minutes,
an O’Brien 3-year-old was
found asleep on the porch at a
home nearby.
Monday, July 25
*Dust from a rock crusher
west of O’Brien stirred alarm
when someone mistook it for
smoke.
*A sheriff’s office volun-
teer noticed a woman throw
something suspicious into a
trashcan at St. Patriks of the
Forest Catholic Church, and
then leave in a vehicle with
Maine plates.
*Roy Ruth, 49, was cited
for lack of an Oregon opera-
tor’s permit and warned for
impeding traffic at Sauer’s Flat
at 2:30 p.m.
*Suspects in a recent bur-
glary at a restaurant in Down-
town CJ were harassing the
owner, she said. Both subjects
were contacted and warned
about trespassing.
*Although a woman was
yelling for help before the call
was terminated, no one was
found in the vicinity of a public
phone on Caves Hwy. from
which the 9 p.m. call took place.
*Four men were warned
for public intoxication on W.
Watkins Street at 11 p.m.

Tuesday, July 19
*Twice today, a yellow
rental truck appeared at Jubilee
Park, and all the transients
jumped in the back, a mid-
morning caller reported.
*Having refused to leave a
residence on Norman Road, a
woman, 31, was taken into
custody on a peace officer’s
mental hold, and transported to
Three Rivers Community Hos-
pital (TRCH) in Grants Pass.
*Told to slow down in the
campground, a man at Lake
Selmac Resort began “cussing
and yelling” at the manager,
she said.
*Possibly on meth, a man
was pounding on cars and
bothering patrons at My
Brother’s Pub, a caller said at
4:40 p.m.
*At 8:30 p.m., after she
was warned about trespassing
and convinced to leave a Nor-
man Road residence in which
she’d been lying in a bed soak-
ing wet, a delusional woman
sat in the middle of the road
and began talking to herself. A
deputy then took a 31-year-old
woman into custody on a peace
officer’s mental hold and once
again took her to TRCH.
Wednesday, July 20
*His step-daughter had
been hit in the face with a can
of beer by one of the guys said
to living in the yellow rental
truck, a man said at 20 minutes
after midnight.
*Although it was reported
that two men were having sex
with young women in the back
of a stolen rental truck at Jubi-
lee Park, when the listed com-
plainant was contacted she had
no knowledge of the situation
and claimed to have not called.
*When a deputy discov-
ered a rental truck behind the
LDS Church on S. Junction
Avenue at 1:40 a.m., several
people ran from it. Arrested
was Joshua L. Burns, 22. He
was charged with first-degree
theft in the matter of the truck
and a large amount of stolen
lumber inside it.
*Following a disturbance
on Schumacher Street, Rodney
Blake Sanders, 40, was ar-
rested on charges of menacing
and taken for accommodations
in Josephine County Jail.
*A tall, skinny woman
dressed in black and driving a
doorless white car with Maine
plates was warned about tres-
passing at Oregon Caves Chev-
ron and Coffee Heaven.
*Russell Randall Ballard,
52, was cited on a charge of
driving while suspended
(DWS) on Watkins Street.
*Persons who had been
“trespassed” from a neighbor-
hood on Ollis Road were back,
a man reported.
*Shirtless, a man was yell-
ing, cussing, acting disorderly
and stopping traffic on Red-
wood Hwy. at W. River Street.
Please don’t drink
and drive
A. Scott Reed, an asso-
ciate dean in the College of
Forestry at Oregon State
University (OSU) at Corval-
lis, and an experienced for-
estry Extension program
leader, has been named dean
and director of the OSU
Extension Service.
Reed will begin his new
duties Sept. 1. He succeeds
Kelvin Koong, who has
been in the position on an
interim basis for a year.
As dean and director,
Reed will oversee an Exten-
sion Service that has OSU
faculty and programs in
every Oregon county -- and
an organization serving a
state contending with
changes in politics, demo-
graphics, and economics.
“Our challenge is to
match our knowledge base
to the issue of Oregon’s
people and to use Exten-
sion’s mission of education
to apply research to solving
the state’s problems,” Reed
said. “Extension best serves
Oregon when we utilize
OSU’s education and re-
search to help empower
people and communities to
make better decisions that
ultimately lend to a better
future.”
OSU Extension Service
has more than 550 faculty
and staff on campus and
throughout the state. It has
an annual budget of ap-
proximately $40 million.
Tuesday, July 26
*A large window was
reported broken out at the Jose-
phine County Bldg. in Down-
town CJ at 8 a.m.
*One window was broken
at the I.V. Visitor Center.
*Second-degree criminal
mischief was discovered at
Assembly of God Church on
Caves Hwy.
*Napa Auto Parts on
Caves Hwy. reported broken
door glass.
*Two other businesses on
S. Redwood Hwy. reported
broken windows this morning.
*On S. Junction Ave. a
man reported that a car win-
dow had been smashed and
some of the contents removed.
*In the pavilion at Jubilee
Park, someone knocked over a
large wooden cabinet and ap-
parently attempted to set it on
fire, a man reported.
*On W. River Street, a
woman reported that someone
left a bag of feces on her front
porch and smeared it on the
screen door.
*Eight people in Jubilee
Park near the playground area
were drinking beer and urinat-
ing publicly, a caller said. Al-
though the one person a deputy
contacted had no liquor, he
surmised that the people he
saw disappear into the woods
likely took it with them.
*Some five or six people
were fighting with baseball
bats on Iron Way, a caller re-
ported. It turned out to be a
landlord/tenant dispute, and all
were advised of their options.
*A father on Dogwood
Lane believed that his 14-year-
old son was involved in the
window smashing that took
place overnight. The boy was
angry with his father for phon-
ing and could be heard in the
background yelling and
“becoming violent.”
*Although the owner flat-
tened the tires of a vehicle with
a dead battery on Iron Way to
keep an intoxicated man from
stealing it, the man did get it
running and promptly ran it
into a fence on Cobalt Way.
Robert Breakfield, 41, was
arrested on charges of driving
under the influence of an in-
toxicant and failure to leave
name at the scene of an acci-
dent.
*A boy on Dogwood Lane
told the call-taker that his fa-
ther had shoved him and
kicked down his bedroom
door. In the background, the
father could be heard to say the
boy was grounded and could
not use the phone.
