This was the week that I was going to regale you, or
cause you to consider disabling my keyboard, with my
rendition of serving as captain of the safety patrol at El
Toyon Elementary School in National City way back in the
sixth-grade. I was going to include a patrol beach party,
sponsored by the National City PD, on the Silver Strand
between Imperial Beach and Coronado. Because all sorts
of odd happenings occurred there. But it’ll have to wait.
This week will be devoted to the Room 16 first-grade
English learners class at Kit Carson Elementary School in
the Linda Vista area of San Diego County, taught by Kim-
berlie Klehman. (I think her first name is Kimberlie; I had
trouble deciphering her hand-writing).
She sent me a packet of letters written by her stu-
dents in connection with a column I wrote for the March
16 issue. In it I recalled attending Kit Carson in the third-
grade and part of the fourth, and stuffing a huge forkful of
cold sauerkraut into my mouth in the cafeteria, thinking
that it was cole slaw. My taste buds went into shock at
first bite, and it was all I could do to chew and swallow
without making a public scene. (I didn’t finish it).
Mrs. Klehman, who owns property on Rockydale
Road, read my sauerkraut column to her students. “They
decided,” she wrote, “they just had to write you and let
you know of the changes in the good selection in the
cafeteria.” So here’s a sample of their letters, with an
apology to the students if I misspelled their names:
*Dear Bob, I’m sorry you didn’t like the food. Now I
can choose my own delicious food. We get 4 choices
each day. I can bring my own lunch. I like the food. The
pizza bagel is my favorite. Please try the sauerkraut again.
Truly, Jeffrey Ngu
*Dear Bob, I’m sorry you didn’t like the sauerkraut …
You going to come to Kit Carson School? We get to pick
our own yummy breakfast. They don’t serve us sauerkraut
at the school.
Truly, Andrico Garcia
*Dear Bob, I’m sorry you didn’t like the food. I get to
choose my own condiments. I can choose my own food …
it is yummy. I don’t like sauerkraut. Our lunches and
breakfast taste good.
Truly, Jenny Wolz
*Dear Bob, I don’t eat sauerkraut. Our food is tasty,
but sometimes food tastes nasty. Did you remember the
day you ate sauerkraut? Sauerkraut doesn't taste yummy
to me either.
Sincerely, Hieu Huang
*Dear Bob, Sometimes the food is kind of nasty.
Please can you try it again one more time please? Do you
like sauerkraut now?
Sincerely, Lina
(Lina -- nice colorful drawings!)
Dear Students: I read each letter, and enjoyed and
appreciate them all. However, there’s only so much room
in this newspaper. Thank you for writing. Maybe one of
these days I’ll come for lunch, and we can compare
favorite food and flavors.
Sincerely, Bob

Mote in her eye
From Joan Robinson
Cave Junction
Regarding the “Thieves
and
vandals” letter
(“Illinois Valley News,”
June 22) I thank the writer
for pointing out the mote in
my eye. I agree with him on
several issues and take ex-
ception to others.
With sheriff’s Lt. Lee
Harmon retiring, and Sheriff
Dave Daniel’s unacceptable
attitude toward our safety
we may all have reason to
fear for our lives. Our rea-
son to fear is the lack of law
enforcement in our valley;
not my night watchman.
Our remedy, though not
pretty, is very effective; and
who can argue with suc-
cess? Not only have we lost
no gas; there has been a sig-
nificant drop in crime in
“uptown CJ” since our
watchman has been here
every night.
The letter-writer is abso-
lutely correct in stating that
we could never afford the
invaluable protection we
receive from our night
watchman. He is doing us
and the community a huge
favor. In case the letter-
writer is unfamiliar with the
concept: (Favor -- friendly
regard shown toward another
without compensation).
Our compliance or lack
thereof with our city laws is
between us and the city, and
is no concern of the letter-
writer.
Now, about the
“Ducks.”
He shouldn't make alle-
gations he cannot substanti-
ate. Those “ducks” live on
River Street, but not on our
property. Check the pond a
little to the west.
We would gratefully
welcome any constructive
solution anyone could offer.
Blatant hostility will be
ignored.
airlifted by Mercy Flights,
and it seemed to take a long
time to get the incident coor-
dinated. I realize it is a diffi-
cult job, at best, but they are
trained personnel, and I be-
lieve that their response
could have been handled a
little better.
Shortly after that, our
own IVFD was dispatched
to an incident in the valley,
and first responders came
upon an accident involving
a motorcycle. They immedi-
ately assessed the situation
and coordinated necessary
medical efforts for both inci-
dents.
We can be thankful that
we have such professional
and highly trained crews
available to us in Illinois
Valley. I know I feel much
safer.
Oath of office

Once again, another
agent for the government,
Sheriff Dave Daniel of Jose-
phine County, has joined the
ranks of other stonewalling,
nonresponsive agents for the
state of Oregon and Jose-
phine County by his refusal
to respond to the issues con-
tained in an Affidavit of
Acceptance of Oath of Of-
fice and Demand for Inves-
tigation/Proof of Jurisdic-
tion, and sent via USPS reg-
istered mail.
Daniel has refused to
carry out the duties required
by his oath of office, and has
placed himself and the state
and county in financial jeop-
ardy via default of the com-
mercial instrument.

states: Article XV Section 3.
Oaths of office. Every per-
son elected or appointed to
any office under this Consti-
tution, shall, before entering
on the duties thereof, take an
oath or affirmation to sup-
port the Constitution of the
United States, and of this
State, and also an oath of
office.
I accept the oaths of
office for Oregon Attorney
General Hardy Myers and
Gov. Ted Kulongoski, and
make the same request, ac-
companied by affidavit, of
each of them to honor their
oaths by investigating fully
and bringing to a close, the
unlawful and criminal con-
duct of multiple agents for
the state, Josephine County
judges, district attorneys,
sheriff, deputies, Secretary
of State Bill Bradbury and
his staff for unlawful re-
moval of public documents
filed with the Oregon Secre-
tary of State, Corporate Of-
fice, UCC Division, and
other agents for the state and
Josephine County responsi-
ble for my unlawful prose-
cution, kidnapping, and be-
ing held hostage by the state

tainty in the minds of the Sov-

I just want to write a
quick note about our won-
derful Illinois Valley Fire
District (IVFD).
We own a transporta-
tion business, and therefore
have a scanner to listen to
possible traffic incidents and
hazards that affect our driv-
ers. Heck, sometimes it’s
more entertainment than
television.
On Saturday, June 25,
we heard four incidents, two
along Interstate 5 and two in
Illinois Valley. There were
two severe accidents on I-5,
which were handled by
agencies out of Grants Pass.
From listening to the scan-
ner, I can say their commu-
nication was terrible, and
deployment of personnel
and equipment was handled
fairly poorly.
