Oregon has its own 25¢ highlighting Crater Lake The Oregon quarter, featuring the image of Cra- ter Lake on the reverse, offi- cially was launched in a public ceremony in Portland Wednesday, June 15. This event kicked off a summer-long promotion by Travel Oregon and the gov- ernor's office to encourage exploration of Crater Lake and the state’s many natural wonders. The summer cele- bration will culminate in Klamath Falls Aug. 25 when Gov. Kulongoski will celebrate the Oregon quarter in Klamath County, the home of Crater Lake. At the event, free and open to the public, the gov- ernor will dedicate Crater Lake Parkway. Last year, under a charge from Kulongoski, the “Explore and Win” promo- tion was developed by a group of tourism profession- als from Southern Oregon, Crater Lake National Park, Travel Oregon and the gov- ernor’s office to celebrate the new Oregon quarter and encourage travelers from around the state, the county and the world to explore Oregon. Tourism is nearly a $7 billion industry in the state and an economic driver for many communities. SMILE! You’re reading the ‘I.V. News’ Introducing Frontier Connections.
