Page 5 Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, March 9, 2005 Valley Surf Internet offers I.V. wide range of service for most everyone Being a full-service provider is accomplished daily at Valley Surf Internet, a new business in Cave Junction in Caves Mall on Caves Avenue behind CJ Select Market. Owned and operated by Cave Junction residents Jeff and Mara Carnes, Valley Surf Internet offers a num- ber of special services, even for those who don’t have their own PCs. Besides being an Inter- net provider, with prices starting at $15 per month; the business has two public, high-speed surf stations. They are available for use on-site for a small fee, but can be used free through Friday, March 18 during the grand opening. Coffee and cookies are available during the grand opening. The two surf stations also can be used free to elec- tronically file tax reports. And some like to use them to check eBay. Mara is a notary public and offers that service too. Valley Surf Internet is open Tuesdays through Fri- days from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The tele- phone number is 592-4117. The new business has blank media, including CDs, available for sale, plus PC fans, keyboards, mouse pads and “mice.” A couple of flash drives also are stocked. “We can order almost anything people want,” said Mara, who said that she has many years experience in tech support and repair. She will look at PCs at no charge to determine the cause of problems, and an estimate for repair will be provided. Also at no charge, the couple will provide vi- rus-free filtering of e-mail MARA and JEFF CARNES for customers. Also free, she said, is a customizable spam filter, which she said is especially useful for parents concerned about what their children might get off the Net. Another item the couple offers is light-speed Web acceleration for those with normal dial-up. It allows surfing up to five times faster than normal. Her husband, a manager at a Grants Pass market, also has computer experience. “This is the kind of work I really enjoy and know,” said Mara. “I’m really comfortable with it because of my background.” She formerly worked at Sterling Savings Bank in Cave Junction. “With my experience in tech support and repair,” she said, “we decided to start our own business, something we’ve wanted for a long time.” She said that she pro- vides free PC advice as part of the business. And as part of the grand opening, the couple is offer- ing free raffle tickets with a drawing April 29. Prizes are a DVD player, three months of free Internet service, and a portable MP3 player. “The only requirement,” said Mara, “is that people need to come in to get their ticket. No purchase is re- quired to enter.” Mara attended Illinois Valley High School, but transferred to Hidden Valley High, where she and her husband both graduated. “When we’re not work- ing, which isn’t often,” she said, “we look forward to rafting. We just love Cave Junction and the river.” 4-Tier Mini Greenhouse (regularly $59.99) 5’Hx2’Wx19”D, perfect for all your seed starting needs!
