Page 4 Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, March 2, 2005 Multivehicle crash near GP results in death of CJ mom Dixie Lee Valdez A memorial service was held Sunday, Feb. 27 at Illi- nois Valley Senior Center in Cave Junction for Selma resident Dixie Lee Valdez, 70, who died at home Feb. 23, 2005. The celebrant for the celebration of her life was Linda Engles. Mrs. Valdez was born Oct. 1, 1934 in Fort Collins, Colo. She moved to Illinois Valley in 1972 from San Jose, Calif. Lois Taylor won the grand prize in “Guess Who” competition. Mrs. Valdez is survived by her husband, Charlie Valdez, of Selma; two daughters, Yvonne, and Lavonne; a sister; five grandchildren; and a great- grandson. A young Cave Junction mother of three, who was seven months pregnant, died, as did the child she was carrying, as a result of a multivehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 22. The accident occurred in the Redwood Hwy. safety corridor at Arbor Ridge Drive, a short distance south of Dawn Drive, not far from the west entrance to Rogue Community College in rural Grants Pass. Dead are Holly Ann Dangerfield, 22, and her unborn child, said Oregon The center will be open from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and “kids of all ages” can attend. Par- ents are welcome to partici- pate and have fun with their children and provide ideas on how to make it better. Based on community support by attendance, the center may open for addi- tional days in the future, and there could be a special night for teen-agers. Programs will include games appropriate for each age group, and mystery field trips and movie days. OSP gave the following account: Grants Pass resident Elizabeth Holt, 71, was stopped on the Redwood Hwy. left lane for southbound traffic, waiting to make a left turn onto Ar- bor Ridge. Two vehicles swerved right to avoid striking Holt’s van. A semitruck, not tow- ing a trailer, was behind those vehicles and swerved left to avoid striking the van, and the semitruck struck the left-rear corner, continued into oncoming traffic and hit a Chevrolet Suburban driven by Marshall.
