IVHS food service dishes up a variety of tasty treats

It may not be five-star
dining, but for Illinois Val-
ley High School students, a
variety of tasty foods await
them daily in the cafeteria.
“Four years ago, So-
dexho took over the lunch
program for Three Rivers
School District (TRSD),
said Dianna Kihs, Food Ser-
vice manager at I.V. High.
“They’ve made a lot of
changes,” she said. “They’re
really into eye appeal and
advertisement. They put in a
lot of posters and menu
boards so kids can see
what’s being served.
“Kids come through
and make their choices,”
said Kihs. “With the old
program, cooks would put
food on a tray and the stu-
dents would have to take it;
and if they didn’t like it,
they were stuck or they
would waste it.”
Kihs starts her day at
5:30 a.m. when she cooks
and serves breakfast by her-
self for approximately 150
students. For lunch, the
whole cafeteria crew comes
in, and together they serve
around 300 students, she
said.
“With the new program,
students choose what they
want to eat,” Kihs ex-
plained. “It’s kind of like the

*A telephone solicitor

*A boy, 8, was reported

Wednesday, Feb. 9
*In the middle of Lake-
shore Drive on a blind curve
on a foggy morning, an
abandoned yellow Cadillac
presented a grave danger to
vehicles and was soon
towed away.
*“One small wooden
pipe containing a green,
leafy substance” was dis-
covered by a tow truck op-
erator and turned over to be
destroyed.
*Around 1 p.m. a
“verbal disturbance” be-
tween a husband and wife
occurred at the I.V. Substa-
tion as he was being served
a restraining order.
*Someone struck her
car while it was parked near
the Cave Junction Post Of-
fice, scratching the bumper,
a woman said.
*Three men left the
scene in a silver Honda af-
ter beating another man to
unconsciousness on a front
yard on Josephine Avenue,
said a caller at 9 p.m. The
victim was taken to Three
Rivers Community Hospital
(TRCH) by American
Medical Response.
Thursday, Feb. 10
*While investigating a
criminal mischief report on
W. Lister Street, a deputy
contacted and arrested Jer-
emy Dillon Dutton, 22, on a
warrant charging failure to
appear on an original charge
of possession of a controlled
substance (PCS).
*Found laying half on-
half off the curb on E. River
Street, a very intoxicated
man was given a ride home.

*“In a fit of rage” a man
at Siskiyou Community
Medical Center threw a
form he had been filling out
at a woman, who asked that
he be removed even though
he had calmed down.
*In the 6000 block of
Caves Hwy. a man reported
a recurring problem with
cattle on the roadway.
*His 13-year-old dog
was poisoned by a neighbor,
just like Subway; several
choices of pizza, hot dogs,
polish dogs, hamburgers and
fresh fruits and vegetables,”
Kihs said.
“It’s better for them,”
she noted, “because they're
not taking food they don’t
want and wasting it.”
Besides preparing and
serving breakfast, Kihs also
handles all the computer
work, paperwork and
money-handling for the
cafeteria.
