Saturday, Jan. 1
*On Redwood Hwy. at
Holton Creek Road at 12:40
a.m., Lee Edward McGhee, 36,
was issued citations to appear
on charges of driving under the
influence of an intoxicant
(DUII), driving while sus-
pended (DWS), and providing
false information. He also was
cited on two warrants charging
failure to appear on prior, simi-
lar infractions, and his vehicle
was impounded.
*At 1:17 a.m. in front of
the I.V. Substation, Jacob J.
Loock, 17, was cited to appear
on a charge of DUII, and the
vehicle he was driving was
towed.
*Prowlers were running
through her yard, said a fright-
ened woman on Caves Hwy.,
and one of them was kicking
her door. Although a neighbor
confirmed seeing the prowlers,
no one was found by a deputy.
*Left in the ditch, a “Stop”
sign and pole were felled on E.
Watkins Street at Caves Ave-
nue.
*On Ridge Vista Drive
someone drove through and
damaged approximately 20 feet
of fence, leaving behind a
Cadillac grill.
*Numerous items includ-
ing TVs and computers were
taken after the Seventh-Day
Adventist Church was ran-
sacked, the congregation dis-
covered at 9 a.m.
*Missing a vehicle identi-
fication tag and stereo, a gray
sedan was abandoned near
Art’s Red Garter Saloon &
Steakhouse.
*Though a small two-door
vehicle was reportedly in a
ditch in the 5000 block of Up-
per Deer Creek Road, neither
firefighters nor a deputy could
locate it.
*A Josephine County Pub-
lic Works employee (likely
driving a snow plow), retrieved
two men from Happy Camp
Road near milepost five where
they lost control of their vehi-
cle around 10:20 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 2
*On Addison Lane, a
wo ma n witnes se d her
neighbor’s vehicle being bro-
ken into by a person in dark
clothing.
*Someone intentionally
drove over a mailbox on
Draper Valley Road, and the
resident tracked the vehicle
tracks in the snow to the sus-
pect’s house. That person was
warned.
*A large tree down on
Rockydale Road had traffic
veering off the road to get
around it at 11 a.m.
*In the 200 block of W.
Watkins Street, a man was
upset at another driver who
splashed mud on his vehicle.
*A two-tone, blue snow-
board was reported stolen from
the bed of a pickup truck
parked at Oregon Caves Chev-
ron.
*Numerous motorists
sought assistance with vehicles
disabled by snow.
*The manager at the Junc-
tion Inn said that a guest had
paid for only one night’s lodg-
ing and would not leave. She
said he was “acting strangely”
and claimed to be 1,000-years-
old. He was removed from the
motel and warned for trespass-
ing.
*A man reported seeing a
red, emergency flare in the
vicinity of Westside Road.
Deputies were unable to find
anyone in the area in need of
assistance.
Monday, Jan. 3
*Henry James Hopman,
42, was cited on a charge of
DWS and warned for lack of a
Sno Park permit at Page Mt.
Snow Park at 1:15 p.m.
*Icy roads caused many
minor traffic mishaps around
the valley this day.
Tuesday, Jan. 4
*A stolen Toyota van was
recovered on Waldo Road near
O’Brien Road early in the
morning.
*James Russell Hinds, 28,
was cited on a charge of DWS
and with a warrant charging
failure to appear (FTA) on a
menacing charge following a
traffic stop in the 400 block of
S. Redwood Hwy. at 11 a.m.
*Charles Dereift Brooks,
57, was arrested on two FTA
warrants charging DUII and
taken from the 400 block of
Redwood Hwy. and lodged in
county jail in Grants Pass.
*A highly intoxicated
hitch-hiker determined to get to
Grants Pass was wandering in
and out of traffic in the 300
block of N. Redwood Hwy. A
deputy warned him about stay-
ing off the road.
Wednesday, Jan. 5
*On Holland Loop a man
returned home to find a man
and woman in a gray sedan
blocking his driveway. After
the couple left he realized a
gasoline can had been taken
from his garage.
*His estranged wife at-
tacked him with pepper spray,
said a man on E. River Street,
around noon.
*Brian Neal Morris, 60,
was cited on a charge of speed-
ing in a school zone near the
I.V. Substation at 3:20 p.m.
*A woman said that her
lost paycheck was deposited
into a stranger’s account.
*Teen-age boys in a green
car appeared to be “casing” her
property, said a woman on
Happy Camp Road.
Thursday, Jan. 6
*Someone stole a credit
card from a Thompson Creek
Road residence and used it to
withdraw cash, a woman re-
ported
*A stolen check was
fraudulently cashed at Joe’s
Market, “Joe” said.
Friday, Jan. 7
*In the vicinity of Rocky-
dale Road and Crest Drive, a
woman was said to be scream-
ing, “Neighbors protect your-
selves, he has a gun and he’s in
the woods! Call 911!” How-
ever, no evidence of a crime
was uncovered.
*The man with the gun on
Crest Drive seemed to come
out of hiding after a deputy left,
because a complainant said that
she could hear the woman say,
“Don’t shoot me!”
*Two people required
extrication and were trans-
ported to Three Rivers Com-
munity Hospital (TRCH) after

their compact vehicle struck a
bob-tailing semitruck in heavy
snow and went off Redwood
Hwy. at milepost 41.
*Returning home on
Caves Hwy. a couple found a
man in their driveway who
claimed to be out of gas. But he
quickly left.
*A white, four-door vehi-
cle was reported stolen from a
Rockydale Road residence.
*Some miscreant ran-
sacked the American Legion
Hall on Caves Hwy.
*Several non-injury motor
vehicle accidents (MVAs) oc-
curred due to snowy weather
Saturday, Jan. 8
*Although nothing ap-
peared to be missing, footprints
in the snow led from his sheds
to the neighbor’s house, said a
man on Takilma Road.
*Having met a fellow
valleyite online, a woman said
that she found his phone mes-
sage disturbing.
*A house on Taurus Lane
had been ransacked, the owner
said.
*Gunshots were heard in
the 24000 block of Redwood
Hwy. at 10:05 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 9
*Following an accident on
Waldo Road, the vehicle’s two
intoxicated occupants walked a
mile and a half to secure a ride
to TRCH, where one appeared
to need surgery and the other
did not want any attention, said
hospital staff.
*A stolen vehicle was
recovered at the gravel pit on
Waldo Road., the owner said.
*On Dick George Road a
motorist moved six large snow-
balls off the road, as they were
a traffic hazard, and advised
that youngsters who put them
there might return to replace
them.
Monday, Jan. 10
*Jeffrey James Barry, 48,
was cited on a charge of DUII
following a single-vehicle
MVA which took out a utility
pole and lines, and disrupted
service to homes in the Holland
Loop area.
*“Crankster criminals” put
large rocks behind his vehicle,
which he then ran into, accord-
ing to a man in the 35000 block
of Redwood Hwy.
*A Subaru station wagon
was reported stolen from
Takilma Road.
