(Photo by Dale Sandberg) USFS employees seek to halt Biscuit logging A motion to stop Bis- cuit Fire logging, based on a claim that not all riparian area trees are being marked, has been filed by Forest Ser- vice Employees for Envi- ronmental Ethics. The motion was filed in U.S. District Court in Eugene. It states that the U.S. Forest Service is not mark- ing all trees in buffer zones designed to protect stream channels. Because of other court action by protest groups, logging of approximately 56 million board feet (mbf) of timber from the 2002 Bis- cuit Fire is blocked in court. Some 4 mbf has been cut in salvage sales on 19,400 acres of the 500,000- acre Biscuit Fire that nearly forced evacuation of the entire Illinois Valley. The forest service proposes to harvest 370 mbf.
