“People at school al-
ways called me ‘Colonel’,
because that’s what I was
when I retired from the mili-
tary,” Crews said.
According to Crews,
those interested in becoming
an adult mentor must un-
dergo a background check
and meet with students dur-
ing school hours only to
make sure they’re staying
on the right track.

O’Hare hired
for finance
Arthur O’Hare has been
promoted to interim director
of the Josephine County
Finance Dept. “until further
order” of the board of
county commissioners.
The board Wednesday,
Dec. 15 passed an order
reorganizing responsibilities
of the department and plac-
ing O’Hare in charge.
Most recently the con-
troller/treasurer for a Rogue
Valley corporation, O’Hare
will oversee all functions of
the finance department, in-
cluding accounts payable
and payroll, and have “full
authority” for the adminis-
trative management and
supervision of the Human
Resources and Risk Man-
agement departments.
O’Hare has 22 years of
accounting experience, in-
cluding eight years with
state government. He also
served 10 years as assistant
director of business affairs
at Western Oregon Univer-
sity at Monmouth.

Answer: Though I am
not aware of all the
details in this case, I
can say that this is not
a common practice in
our community. Be-
fore anyone receives
hospice care, the hos-
pice is required to in-
form them of hospice
charges for which they
assume responsibility.
The following are ex-
amples – 5% of all
hospice medications
(Medicare); private in-
surance deductibles;
private insurance co-
pay amounts; etc. The
person’s signature in-
dicates that they un-
derstand their financial
obligation.
