Wild River Oktoberfest marks 10th
Wild River Brewing
will celebrate 10 years of
successful business in
Grants Pass by hosting an
Oktoberfest-type party on
Sunday, Oct. 17.
The party will run
from noon to 7 p.m. the
17th; and “1994 pizza
prices” will be offered
from Monday, Oct. 18
through Thursday, Oct. 21.
Weather permitting, all
party activities will be held
on the south parking lot at
Wild River’s main restau-
rant at 595 N.E. “E” St. in
Grants Pass. In case of
rain, the event will be held
at the nearby Wild River
Pub, 533 NE. “F” St.
Rural Cave Junction
residents Jerry and Bertha
Miller originally opened
“The Pizza Deli” in Cave
Junction, and five years
later a second location in
Harbor, next to Brookings.
The couple changed
the company name to Wild
River shortly before open-
ing a restaurant in Grants
Pass in October 1994.

nonsmoking environment
in a 300-seat facility.
The anniversary cele-
bration on Sunday the
17th, will feature a Ger-
man-style in keeping with
the Oktoberfest theme. A
Wild River beer garden
will feature the brewery’s
popular “Oktoberfest
Bier,” as well as other se-
lections from the firm’s
brewery.
There will be German-
style “oompah” music by
“Rogue Valley Sauer-
krauts, a 16-piece band,
from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and
from 5 to 7 p.m.
“Rogue Suspects” will
perform contemporary,
original and popular music
from 3 to 4:45 p.m.
Children’s activities
will feature “Calico the
Clown, who will provide
face-painting, balloon art,
storytelling and some
magic. Keith Fuller from
Radio Station KRRM
(94.7 FM) will be emcee.

“Rogue Valley Sauer-
krauts,” formed in 1961
and also known as, “The
Hillah Temple German
Band,” features trumpets,
clarinets, trombones,
French horn, baritone, bass
and drums.
M e mb e r s i n c l u d e
many Medford/Ashland
music educators and direc-
tors, plus many other pro-
fessions.
The band’s music
“comes from music houses
in Bavaria,” according to
Harry Kannasto. Members
wear authentic lederhosen,
or leather pants. The
“Sauekrauts” has been one
of Southern Oregon’s fa-
vorite family and
“oompah” polka bands for
many years.
“Rogue Suspects,”
formerly known as “The
Usual Suspects,” also has
members with varied ex-
periences.
It’s comprised of Greg
Frederick, bass, a veteran
of Jazz and Blues festivals
nationwide; and Dirk
Price, a guitarist and vo-
calist who has recorded
and composed music for
“Entertainment Tonight”
and performed with
John n y Mathis and
“Manhattan Transfer.”
Also, John Foster, on
drums and percussion, who
has been involved in mu-
sic, art and teaching most
of his life; and Dean An-
germeier on keyboards and
vocals,who has performed
with “Borderline” and
“The Difference.”

lic will be held Saturday,
Oct. 16 by the Grants Pass
Dept. of Public Safety.
The event at Hillcrest
Fire Station will begin at
9:30 a.m. with a free pan-
cake breakfast,, and con-
tinue until 2 p.m. with
demonstrations, displays,
and fire and crime preven-
tion information.
There will be demon-
strations of motor vehicle
extrications, technical res-
cue operations, extin-
guisher operation, and po-
lice K-9 work. Also,
“Sparky the Fire Dog” will
give away balloons, and a
Fire Safety House for chil-
dren will be on-site.
