Chris Christianson
A private service was
arranged for Cave Junction
resident
Chris
Christianson, 88, who died
Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004 at
his home.
Arrangements are un-
der the direction of Illinois
Valley Funeral Home.
Mr. Christianson was
born at Devils Lake, N.D.
on May 15, 1916. He was
a retired log truck driver.
He moved to Illinois
Valley in 1997 from
Ukiah, Calif. He was a
member of the Seventh-
day Adventist Church.
The family suggests
memorial donations to
“Better Life” television at
P.O. Box 766, Grants Pass
OR 97528.
Surviving are his wife,
Mikey Christianson, of
Cave Junction; a brother,
Wallace Christianson, of
Colorado Springs, Colo.; a
sister, Violet Failing, of
Minneapolis, Minn.; and
IVSC classes
Classes at Illinois Val-
ley Senior Center include
yoga on Tuesdays at 10
a.m., and crafts at 11 a.m.
Also, beading Tues-
days at 1 p.m., and paint-
ing for fun Wednesdays at
10 a.m.

Former Cave Junction
resident Harvey Franklin
Schieber, 93, of Grants
Pass, died Sunday, Sept.
19, 2004 at Three Rivers
Community Hospital.
A private service will
be held. Southern Oregon
Cremation Services is in
charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schieber was born
on May 2, 1911 in Chi-
cago, Ill. On June 21, 1935
in Chicago, he married his
wife, Mary Schieber, of
Grants Pass, who survives.
He was a Linotype ma-
chinist from 1935 until his
retirement in 1973.
He and his wife moved
to Cave Junction 30 years
ago from California. Three
years ago they moved from
Cave Junction to Grants
Pass.
He was a Jehovah’s
Witness since 1959 and
has been a member of the
Grants Pass congregation
for several years.
He enjoyed ocean fish-
ing, especially in Baja
California. He was a car
enthusiast and enjoyed any
kind of mechanical work.
He donated many hours
restoring the Linotype ma-
chine displayed in the Ker-
byville Museum, and
which was donated by the
late Bob Grant, former
“Illinois Valley News”
publisher.
Besides his wife, sur-
vivors are four children,
Cedric H. Schieber, of
Selma; Linda A. Elliott,
and June Carlson, both of
Grants Pass; and David M.
Schieber, of Santa Rosa,
Calif.; nine grandchildren;
and
seven
great-
grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by his daughter,
Myrna J. Bernstein.
HELPFUL HOUSING FAIR - A talk on landlord responsibilities and tenant rights
(above) was given by an attorney from the Oregon Law Center in Grants Pass, iden-
tified as Eric Dahlin, as part of the Illinois Valley Housing Fair on Saturday, Sept. 18.
The free, informational program included 12 classes to assist tenants and landlords.
It was held at the I.V. Family Coalition Center in Cave Junction with numerous part-
ners: Options of Southern Oregon, I.V. Community Response Team, USDA Rural
Development, I.V. Safe House Alliance, Access, Josephine Housing Council Com-
munity Development, Community Action, Women’s Crisis Support Team, Southern
Oregon Housing Resource Center, and Consumer Credit Counseling.
