Granville - Gavlik engagement announced John and Christina Granville, of Selma, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daugh- ter, JoAnna, to Jeff Gavlik, son of Selma residents Ken and Pearlene Gavlik. The couple became engaged on Aug. 21 at Crater Lake, where she accepted a three- stone ring. The wedding is planned for May 2005. Gav- lik is deputy chief of Illinois Valley Fire District. The bride-to-be is a volunteer firefighter. I.V. Garden Club Illinois Valley Garden Club will have its first meet- ing of the 2004-05 year on Friday, Sept. 17. The program topic will be, “Fall Planting,” with Paul Dillon, of Dillon’s Nursery, Cave Junction. American Legion Auxiliary Glenn Morrison Unit 70 The American Legion Auxiliary meeting opened with a memorial service for Catherine Torrance, a 37-year member, with the charter draped in her memory. The auxiliary Color Guard won 1st place in the marching category of the I.V. Lions Labor Day parade. Bingo also was a success during the festival. Ellie Buell returned with pride from the National Con- vention addressing all the wonderful programs occur- ring at the national level. One highlight was that she got to attend a talk by President Bush; with standing ovations throughout. The following day she heard presidential candidate John Kerry speak. On Saturday, Oct. 9 the post and unit will hold a “Swing, Hop and Rock Through the Decades” dance. More details will be available later. Only 19 more members are needed to reach the auxil- iary membership goal. The executive meeting is set for Thursday, Sept. 23 at 2 p.m.; and the next auxiliary meeting for Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m., with a potluck at 6. Lister Street at a quarter after midnight, a man was seen walking around and looking suspi- ciously at people. *No injuries were re- ported after a motor vehi- cle accident (MVA) on Redwood Hwy. at Finch Road at 10:52 a.m. *Although unknown were it was coming from, automatic weapons fire was reported in the 9000 block of Takilma Road. *A woman said that her boyfriend had been hitting her while she was driving. After she stopped he got out, and she drove away from him. *Having left a note for his mother, a 16-year-old boy was reported as a run- away at 7 p.m. *On Waldo Road, a woman reported the return of two men from a prior incident. Though no evi- dence of a crime was dis- covered, the men, who left after a confrontation with neighbors, were later warned about kidnapping. Thursday, Sept. 2 *An intoxicated man was pounding on doors in the 300 block of W. Lister Street at 1:08 a.m. *Claiming he was go- ing to shoot the people who took his dog and goat, a man on Redwood Hwy. called at 8:20 a.m. All crit- ters were accounted for when a deputy checked, and the man was advised of his civil options and the eviction process. *Calling from Ne- braska, a man asked that deputies check the welfare of his daughter, who, he said, was living with “a known drug dealer and wanted fugitive.” When contacted, the woman, 30, was “Code 4 (OK).” *A woman complained that someone had struck and damaged her vehicle on Millie Street. *An intoxicated tran- sient attempting to report a theft scared a clerk at the I.V. Substation, who called for deputy assistance. *Despite being diffi- cult, a man at the I.V. Sub- station managed to report that a woman had been taking money from him. *Alarms were sound- ing at Illinois Valley High School around 5:30 p.m. *Four drivers were warned for speeding on Redwood Hwy. between Kerby and Selma at ap- proximately 6 p.m. *Unhappy with the repairs a logging company made to something dam- aged on her property, a woman on Redwood Hwy. called to complain.
