Greenpeace gets booted
A citation was issued
to Greenpeace for illegal
occupancy of public lands
by Medford District Bu-
reau of Land Management
(BLM) law enforcement
on Sunday, June 27.
Greenpeace moved
onto BLM land 5 miles
west of Glendale during
Memorial Day weekend.
BLM issued a temporary
letter of authorization to
allow the group to stay on
public land past the 14-day
limit while its application
was being considered.
On Tuesday, June 15,
BLM revoked the tempo-
rary letter of authorization
and requested Greenpeace
leave within 48 hours.
According to BLM,
Greenpeace did not begin
packing to leave the site
until Sunday, June 27.
Greenpeace will be
required to appear before a
judge, who will assess the
fines and costs incurred as
a result of BLM respond-
ing to this activity.
Greenpeace must have
an authorized special rec-
reation permit before re-
turning to the public land.

ventured to a new location
-- the former I.V. Commu-
nity Response Team of-
fice, 200 W. Lister St.,
adjacent to New Life Natu-
ral Foods.
Steve Lanusse-Siegel,
owner, moved his store
from the former location to
offer the same wide variety
of independent, foreign,
and popular film selections
“for the entire family.”
The store carries an
eclectic variety of films on
VHS and DVD ranging
from children’s videos,
documentaries, and poli-
tics, to Native American,
Asian, and Indian cultural
and historical films.
Lanusse-Siegel also has a
hand-picked selection of
new releases and a special
“Steve’s favorites” section.
“I love movies,” he
said. “But I like more
thought-provoking, nurtur-
ing, and non-violent films.
Independent films feature
more reality and beautiful
scenery than action films. I
also have a lot of musical
performances and spiritual
titles to choose from.”
He gets new titles in
every week, including
many popular releases.
There is a small five-day
rental fee for children’s
films; and competitive
prices for all other VHS
and DVD movies. There
are also new T-shirts and
used-music CDs available.
Video Explorer is open
from noon to 8 p.m. Mon-
days to Saturdays.

have reported seeing or
killing the reptiles, a few
in very close proximity to
homes in O’Brien and in
