phone call from rural CJ,
during which a woman
asked the best way to kill
herself, she voluntarily
submitted to a mental hold.
*Mail and the mailbox
containing it were reported
missing from Briar Lane.
*Two men were con-
tacted at 4:19 p.m. in the
vicinity of Redwood Hwy.
and E. River Street after
eight gunshots were re-
ported. One man, who had
a rifle, was warned about
shooting in city limits.
*Randolph Lee Arey,
30, was arrested on S.
Junction Avenue on
charges of probation viola-
tion and driving while sus-
pended (DWS).
*Theft of a wallet from
a purse in a house in CJ
turned out to be an error.
*After a couple had a
disturbance at Caves Hwy.
and Old Stage Road, they
were provided transporta-
tion to separate locations.

‘MAIN’ DISPLAY - City of
Cave Junction employ-
ees placed U.S. flags and
color flower baskets
along Redwood Hwy.,
the city’s main street,
last week for Memorial
Day. The plants were ob-
tained from Siskiyou
Greenhouses.
Woman hurt
in assault at
Lake Selmac
A man assaulted a
Selma woman while she
was walking near Lake
Selmac at approximately 9
p.m. on Thursday, May 27,
according to a report to
Josephine County Sheriff’s
Office.
Catherine Ragsdale,
39, contacted deputies to
report that a white male in
his 20s had assaulted her
on Reeves Creek Road,
near the Lake Selmac Re-
sort.
She reported that a
man snuck up behind her
on foot and punched her in
one eye before grabbing
her around the neck. Her
shirt was torn, as she man-
aged to fend off her at-
tacker and run to the re-
sort, said JCSO.
No vehicle was heard,
and the direction the sus-
pect traveled is unknown.
She told investigators
that as she was running
down Reeves Creek Road,
she attempted to stop two
motorists by waving her
arms for assistance, but
neither vehicle stopped.
She suffered a bruised
and swollen eye and com-
plained of soreness of her
neck and head. She was
treated and released on
scene by American Medi-
cal Response.
The suspect is de-
scribed as a 5-8 white
male, age 20-25, weighing
approximately 150 pounds,
with blue eyes, a long
mustache, and shoulder-
length blond hair.
He was wearing a
black trench coat, white T-
shirt, and dark pants with
dirty white tennis shoes.
Reports indicate he may
have been walking with a
cane.
Anyone who may have
seen Ragsdale or the sus-
pect in the area of Lake
Selmac during the time of
this attack is asked to
phone the sheriff’s Major

*Six dogs were fight-
ing in the 6000 block of
Lakeshore Drive, a woman
said. It was determined
that there had been a dog
fight, but without injuries.
*Shooting a dog was
logged at a valley site.
*Because he could not
reach someone on Dick
George Road by telephone
for several hours, a man
was concerned. A welfare
check determined that all
was OK.
Sunday, May 9
*At 2:07 a.m. a call
was received from a Cave
Junction business that
someone in a car was try-
ing to run over a man on
the parking lot. The victim
appeared uninjured; the
suspect was identified.
*Justin R. Smith, 25,
was cited on a DUII charge
*Near milepost 34 of
Redwood Hwy. at 5:44
p.m. a woman with five
teen-agers ran out of gas.
She was hoping the other
part of her party would
come back and help.
*Locked brakes looked
like a fire near milepost 25
of Redwood Hwy.
*One of two young
motorcyclists fell at Jubi-
lee Park near younger chil-
dren; then both cyclists left
at 7:03 p.m.
*In Selma a mother
was worried because her
daughter, 11, didn’t come
home the day before, after
having permission to stay
with a girlfriend. The
mother didn’t have the
friend’s number or loca-
tion. Later, the mother
reached her daughter, who
thought she had the OK to
stay until Monday.
*There was an out-of-
control girl in the 27000
block of Redwood Hwy.
Then she wasn’t.
Monday, May 10
*A man claimed he
was assaulted the night
before at an O’Brien site.
*After a dog was shot
on Norman Road, the bul-
let was still in him, and he
was said to be OK.
*Eric J. Hendrix, 41,
was issued a federal cita-
tion near Six-Mile Camp-
ground out Illinois River
Road on a charge of cut-
ting a green tree.
*A child dialed 911
from Draper Valley Road.
The child was counseled.
*On Laurel Road a
woman was arrested under
a peace officer’s mental
hold and taken for assis-
tance after her brother
asked for help.
*There was a report
from a CJ business that a
terminated employee made
threatening comments.
*Theft of prescription
drugs was complained
about in the 24000 block
of Redwood Hwy.
*“Dialing error” was
attributed to a 911 hang-up
call from the 27000 block
of Redwood Hwy.
*People who don’t live
there were reported driving
recklessly in Kerby Trailer
Park.
*In Downtown CJ at
8:25 p.m. a man was
warned about speed racing.
*Something to do with
burglary, transients and an
abandoned residence being
turned into a chicken coop
was reported in Selma.
*The possibility of a
prowler near Robbie’s
Auto Care was checked at
8:52 p.m.
*After being asked to
leave a CJ bar twice and
doing so, a man returned
and refused to leave a third
time. He was to be
“trespassed,” but couldn’t
be located.
*City of CJ employees
fixed two irrigation lines at
CJ Swimming Pool that
somehow were shooting
water 5 feet in the air at
10:42 p.m.
Tuesday, May 11
*Shortly after mid-
night in the 2000 block of
Draper Valley Road, gun-
shots, banging noises, en-
gine sounds and yelling
were heard were reported.
No problem was located.
*Two more gunshots
were reported near the pre-
ceding location at 12:52
a.m. It seemed that people
were in the woods.
*A runaway juvenile
girl from Dogwood Lane
was logged at 9:02 a.m.
