Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, June 2, 2004 Page 11 Cougar softball team reaches state quarterfinals; has excellent 23-6 season Illinois Valley High School’s varsity softball team fin- ished second in the Skyline Conference; then beat Douglas 4-0 in the opening round of the 3-A state play- off games in Cave Junction on May 24. The Cougars then clobbered third-ranked Taft in Philomouth 2-0 Wednesday, May 26. I.V. then played Baker on Satur- day, May 29 in Baker, but lost 6-0. Baker was second at state last year. Head coach Justine Johnson said that the team exceeded all expectations from those outside Illinois Valley. She added that the team will lose gradu- ating seniors Kim Hamilton, Kelsi Snook and Catherine Sullivan. She credited the team’s dedication for the superb season. (Rear from left) coach T.A.
