Sports Challenge
Each year a Work Plan is prepared by staff and approved by the Illinois Valley Com-
munity Response Team Board. The plan reflects the priority activities directed toward
achieving the mission for a given year.
The following progress report recently was submitted to the board to demonstrate what
has been accomplished on the 2004 plan. This will give a comprehensive picture of the
variety of activities being undertaken. As you will see, we are moving from a development
to implementation phase in a number of projects – Rural Community Development Initia-
tive (RCDI), fuels reduction, contractor training, “Forks” Park. The three business devel-
opment programs should be ready for implementation during the next three to six months.

1. Kerby Water District USDA Grant Application.
*Application submitted 12/03.
*Environmental review and additional engineering to be redone by May 1.
2. Grayback & Caves Creek Campground.
*Prospectus received 4/19 and pre-analysis being under way.
*Social Volunteers Committee meeting requested for next week; proposal due on 5/24.
3. Business incubator – building and support program.
*Grant application submitted; grant application goes to USDA state office this week.
4. Business Growth Investment Fund – Mentor program for new/growing businesses.
*Pre-application submitted 11/03.
*Received invitation to submit full proposal on 4/22; submission due 5/15.
5. Revolving Loan Fund support services
*Proposal submitted to RLF.
*Awaiting business qualified VISTA participant in August.
6. RCDI – matching funds for non-profit capacity building training and technical aid.
*Grant approved March 2004.
*Submitting paper work; hope to have funding in place by June ‘04.
7. Marketing of light industrial park
*Will commence w/business incubator.
8. Forest contractors training.
*First session conducted in March.
*Providing assistance to local companies interested in bidding on Longwood Complex Fire
fuels reduction RFP.
9. Stewardship Rehab Project.
*Advisory group has met three times.
*Project selection postponed in favor of National Forest Foundation and RAC grant prepa-
ration; applications submitted for McCaleb Ranch improvements in collaboration with Boy
Scouts .
10. Fuel reduction/Community Fire Planning.
*CRT represented on JoCo Community Fire Plan Executive Committee.
*$250,000 for private land fuels reduction to start in July.
*CRT selected to administer $1.25 million JoCo NFP fuels reduction grant in ‘05.
*Negotiating to administer $300,000 fuels reduction on county land.
*Community fire planning meetings (by I.V. Fire District) to start in May.
*CRT supplying VISTA participant to IVFD in August.
11. ‘Forks’ State Park pavilion.
*Permit obtained and order for pavilion placed.
*Work to be organized this spring; looking for volunteer coordinator.

*OPTIONS housing study under way.
