District (WMD) will hold
a general, public meeting
Wednesday, March 31 at 7
p.m. at the Josephine
County Bldg. in Down-
town Cave Junction.
Items on the agenda
include: The Siskiyou Re-
gional Education Project’s
suit against the Siskiyou
National Forest (SNF) de-
signed to severely limit or
prohibit suction dredging;
and the Waldo Mining
District’s countersuit
against the SNF designed
to allow suction dredging
pursuant to current laws
and regulations.
Also the mining dis-
trict’s suit against the sec-
retary of commerce to re-
move several species of
local salmon from the
threatened and endangered
species list.
The current rising
price of gold, and what
that means for miners and
claim owners, along with
other mining issues.
WMD, established in
1852, is Oregon’s oldest
mining district. Its purpose
is to preserve, protect and
promote mining in S.W.
Oregon.
Anyone interested in
mining and protecting their
rights to mine on public
land can attend.
