Illinois Valley News, Cave Junction, OR Wednesday, March 3, 2004 Page 12 GIRLS LOSE HEARTBREAKER - Illinois Valley girls lost to Lakeview 57-55 in a nail- biter that came down to the last two seconds during an intense state playoff game on Friday night, Feb. 27 in Ken Mann Memorial Gym. The Cougars went into the game as #3 in the Skyline Conference having won nine of its last 10 games. But with the loss, the Honkers earned the right to go to state. I.V. finished the season 10-4 in the Skyline, 18-7 overall. I.V.’s Kim Hamilton scored a game-high 29 points and had tied the game 53-53 with 55 seconds on the clock before Lakeview scored 2 with two seconds left. Emily Dudley and Serena Barry each netted 8 points for the Cougars. Besides Hamilton, the contest marked the last game for I.V. seniors Nicole Hendrick- son, Lacey Madden and Kelsi Snook. We moved and no longer have room for everything. Several coffee pots and small appliances, jewelry boxes, vintage clothing, phones, computer games, kitchen stuff, small color TV., golf clubs, lots of CDs and other good stuff. VOLUNTEER PLANTERS - Approximately 100 youth and adult volunteers participated in the annual For- estry Action Committee Volunteer Planting Day, plac- ing hundreds of saplings. Locations were along Sucker Creek; in the Waldo Road area; 10 miles out Illinois River Road in areas affected by the 2002 Bis- cuit Fire; along Thompson and Deer Creeks in Selma; near the city of Cave Junction wastewater treatment plant; along Draper Creek in Selma; and along Althouse Creek in the Dick George area. The project was based at the forest service lower compound in Cave Junction with hot drinks and pastries. After the work was accomplished, volunteers returned for a pot- luck meal that included chili and beverages.
